Assuming this is true, are the savings being passed along to the consumer? I am confident that BluRay disc prices will fall once the format becomes "mass market" and most titles sell in the millions.
THE real telling factor of this is look at the cost of blank media:

Verbatim HD DVD-R 15GB 1 Speed HD DVD-R

Price £9.20 inc VAT [FREE UK Delivery]

NOW LETS LOOK AT THE COST OF BLU-RAY BLANK

Verbatim BD-R 25GB 1-2 Speed BD-R

Price £12.93 inc VAT [FREE UK Delivery]

HD DVD-: FOR 15 GB disc is USD:$18.46
BLU-RAY-: FOR 25 GB DISC IS USD:$26.00

SO FOR $8.00 MORE YOU 10 MORE GB WORTH OF SPACE...

This has nothing to do with what it costs a movie studio for a blank disc. Well under $1.50 per disc for a movie studio. Take a look at the 5 disc version of blade runner on blu-ray which costs the same as the 1 disc version of 300 on hd-dvd. Under $28 on Amazon. That's with the disc manufacturer, the movie studio, and the retailer all making a profit off of the sale.
Not an attack. Just wanted to clarify that the blank discs aren't at all expensive if your buying a truckload of them from the manufacturer.

At most 2 of those are actual HD discs BTW, the rest are $0.50 DVDs

i know that is not what i was pointing out..i was pointing out that the key indication of media cost for the consumer in OPTICAL formats is to look at the cost to the consumer at retail for blank media. i was not talking about studios..sorry if i indicated that. i was not trying too. but you bet i agree 100% with what you said about movie studios. and when you buy truck loads.of blank disc's...
