Worse. This disc is sourced from a cam recording of them playing a bootleg VHS on a CRT B&W television, with a new blanket teal grading, and a director's cut which randomly removes 30 minutes of scenes. Also AI is in there somewhere. Lots of AI. Is that worrisome enough for you, friendo?

Mediocre artwork, but excited for the disc.

Don't care for the art either. There's like 3 or 4 'artists' doing this exact same thing and I can't tell any of it apart.

I'm not crazy about the art either. It's from a different artist than the Miller's Crossing one (which I personally like more), but is somewhat similar in terms of color tones, the border around the artwork, and title placement.

Miller's Crossing is much better executed. It looks more like a real art piece. This one has cartoon-ize-me photoshop collage energy to it.

I think a perfect art would have been Moss looking at the bag of money or Bell sitting at the table.

Good to see a new title from Criterion for once. Looking forward to revisiting this one.

Hope they don’t pull a Miller’s Crossing with this.

Very curious about the wording of the "new 4K master, supervised and approved" by Deakins. As some others mentioned, this has always had a 4K DI, but Criterion touting it as "new" makes me wonder if they went back and rescanned the negative with modern scanner technology. That would seem like a pretty big and seemingly "unnecessary" expense for something that would be a slam dunk release as-is, but maybe that was a condition of doing business with either the Coens or Deakins. My guess is we'll hear something from Deakins about it in the coming months as he's usually pretty open about these things.

I do find the artwork a letdown, but I know Criterion has used similar styles for other Coen releases so I guess they're just trying to stay on theme.

The original DI had no Dolby Vision / HDR pass, so I'm sure how a newer scan would be an unnecessary expense..

They rarely release new titles so it's cool to see. Especially ones like Eastern Condors, Paper Moon, Funny Girl, Scarface, Gummo, Happiness, Real Life, Risky Business, Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid, Peeping Tom, The Apu Trilogy, Videodrome, Citizen Kane, and The Piano. I hope they release those soon they'd be cool and new to the format.

Amazing news, I watched the Blu-ray earlier this year and it looked rough. It'll be interesting to see how those CGI animals hold up in 4K

Criterion words this stuff very confusingly, on purpose. For example their Wall-E UHD advertised a "New 4K Master" even though it was derived from Disney's existing 2K DI. CC's definition of new really just means that they haven't offered that presentation before.

"New 4K master" means a whole lotta nuthin'. As said above, it's prolly just had its 4K DI (which Deakins would've scrutinised to the nth degree at the time) reappraised by Deakins for the 4K HDR space.

Obligatory I thought Deakins disliked HDR. Is this is his first release with DV?

Edit: Shawshank is on DV on iTunes so I guess maybe his first physical release with DV.

I don’t mind the artwork, but I would prefer Chigurh gone and just the briefcase, or nothing and move the title up to be more in the space.

1917 has Dobly on disc as well. Skyfall too. But DV isn't the entirety of HDR in itself, we've had lots more of his movies in HDR10. Deakins has since come around to the idea of HDR as a system, not that he's made his HDR grades vastly more expressive but now that he can translate his 'look' into the HDR space more authentically he's happier with it.
