They just feel like nasty apartments and even for me they're so loud I also have trouble sleeping. Going to read a bit more, then shower after I give myself another shave and a haircut.

Well luckily this hotel had a great breakfast to start the day. I'm going to make it a point to get here earlier tomorrow so I can eat more Had a real nice day out at the Biltmore. It is quite a place and I'm going to have to read up on the family.
I have no reason to stay in California. I should see about transferring back here but I would have to wait longer. I love California. I don't want to leave. I'm sure I would miss the places that I love going to and I won't find mountains in the US like we have anywhere East of the Rockies. But I could see myself adjusting pretty easily out here. I really enjoyed the couple trips that I took in the late 90's. I'm a scenery guy and I've loved the drive up from Brunswick and just seeing all the trees along the highway. We're even seeing some fall color change which is nice too.

We only drive in California at certain times of the day. The other times, we just enter freeways and highways and find our parking spot

I don't have that problem with hotels or cruise ships. But that's because I take sleep medicine every night. Or medicine that helps me sleep. I have restless leg syndrome and I cannot sleep or do anything when my legs act up.

You're going to the wrong hotels. I haven't been to any hotels like that at all. Not even back in the day when we couldn't afford the nicest hotels. And I ought to know because I lived in a NASTY apartment. Total Roach-infested flea bag at one point.

I was ready to be home when I was waiting for the Uber ride to work. This day has been crap from the moment I woke up. I need my leg medicine, which is unheard of usually during the day. I can't take any because I am out and can't get my refill until after 5:00 pm.

It’s a decision you’ll have to come to grips with soon. I assume it’s fairly easy to transfer with USPS? Def a plus to be closer to family and the dogs. Not sure I would want to leave Cali tho.

Biltmore is awesome and I considered getting a season pass. Isn’t it crazy that a single guy built that place? Talk about a bachelor pad. George canceled his trip back to the US on Titanic. It was so close that his trunks were already loaded on board. Talk about a missed call.

I hope you made it up to the village for some good eats and the winery. They had Napoleon's chess set on display the last time I was there. It used to be in the library. The Vanderbilt’s have a deep history but worth looking into.

First time making it, it was really good. Here is what I put in it.

Put two jars of past sauce in the croc pot

cook hamburger meat and mild sausage in frying pan on the stove, then drain the grease. Place meat back in pan on the oven and add minced garlic. Cook it for about 10-12 more minutes.

Add one bag of frozen corn, three cans of low sodium tomatoes to the croc pot along withe the meat mixed with garlic. Then add one container of low sodium beef broth.

To spice it up, I added some onion powder, crushed red pepper, Italian seasoning, black pepper & low sodium salt.

Boil lasagna style pasta shells, then drain the shells and add to the croc pot. When ready to serve in a bowl, add some parsley and parmesan cheese to top it off.

NAH, bro!!!! That would be the easiest decision in the world. Even easier than deciding to breathe. California is nice to visit, but ONLY VISIT. Living there is out of the question and a BIG NO on places to live. I'd sooner rather live in Saudi Arabia than California. There's nothing there that I can't get out of a nice long vacation there. You couldn't pay me to live there. NO AMOUNT of money could do that.

My brother loved California at first but hates it now, no idea why he doesn't leave. Just had a posting spree but not in the mood to go home yet so I may go work out in a bit and then go home or stay at my sister's house for a bit longer.

Well, I don't have to make any decisions too soon. We didn't do the winery when we were done. I don't drink at all and while it wasn't that late, it wasn't really early either. Saw a few attractive girls while I was there. That's just a side note

After we were done, we went back to the hotel and then I took the hotel shuttle to downtown and walked around a bit. I got some ice cream at Kilwins and it was really good.

Drove up to Gatlinburg today via Cherokee and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We hit some of the hardest rain I've seen, probably since the last time I was here or say stationed in Pensacola. I don't think I even saw rain this hard in Ireland. The weather was all wrong but we still got some shots and doesn't take anything away from the great time we're having. Immediately after entering the park, we saw several elk grazing. One big buck and then some young ones too. I'll have to post a few pics later.

We're in Gatlinburg now and I know it's only gotten bigger since the last time I was here but daaaaaamn. I remember Pigeon Forge being more for kids or young adults and I would have thought Gatlinburg might be more for couples. I was 18 at the time of that '97 trip. It's definitely for families with kids now. We're at the hotel and about to go do some walking and find something to eat. I'm not sure if the rain has let up but we've got umbrellas so we should be alright

Sounds like you are enjoying yourself. If you did move there, would you need to find a new job or do you work remotely now and could simply keep the same job and live in GA instead of CA? If so, then in keeping the same salary, your cost of living would substantially decrease compared to CA.

I work for USPS so I wouldn't be able to work from home unfortunately. It would be awesome if I did though. I envy people that can work for Google or Facebook and pretty much do it from anywhere in the world. It is a lot cheaper out here for sure but I'm not sure the difference in salary. I'll have to look into that.
