Scanning Letterboxd plenty of people didn't like this movie.

However compared to Cuckoo, I think Strange Darling is an absolute masterpiece!

I thought Cuckoo was a bad film - I struggled to make its to the end

I loved Cuckoo We need more films like this.

It's nowhere near as challenging as his previous film Luz.

Great cast too which helps.

I very rarely watch trailers before seeing a film but couldn't help myself with Cuckoo and it unsetteled me = I knew I'd love it.

It's a bit early Cronenberg but with a bit of gloss.

It was absolutely mediocre. I had no issues making it to the end as I've seen far worse, but a big disappointment for me as I was really looking forward to it.

Funny enough I actually watched this first recently and realized Kyle Gallner was in Strange Darling and instantly decided to make it a double header! The difference between the two were night and day to say the least as far as my enjoyment.

My biggest complaint is that the main j!zz handed big bad Mama Instagram filter for a Villain looked like something i'd expect to see on a throwaway SNL skit and not a movie like this with legitimate potential. If that wasn't enough they even threw in the ol' trusty and always incredibly lazy audible bone cracking sound effect as she moves closer to REALLY scare you. I hate this with a passion that they're still using this in moments that are supposed to be tense/scary.

I do agree though that i've seen much worse and this had TONS of potential in the first half but it fell off immensely for me in the second half to the point I was just shaking my head during that entire final scene which was just comically ridiculous and over the top.. All that and the Dad character just sunk the movie for me which was that much more disappointing because Hunter and Dan were mostly great and deserved much better imo.

Strange Darling OTOH was a very strong 4/5 imo and i'm really looking forward to giving it another watch next Year. Gallner is easily becoming one of my favorite underrated Actors, I just wished he picked better projects overall but he nailed this one at least! Willa Fitzgerald was captivating as well and stole quite a few scenes, she's another one i'll be looking out for now.

This post is already getting a bit long so i'll just say if you haven't seen the trailer for Strange Darling, i'd highly suggest being very minimal on what you look up/watch about it as it's def. one that's much better going in as blind as possible.
