Fandango at Home/Vudu - Ways to stream 3D?

I don't know how since I never bought it, but I have Super Mario Bros in 3D on Fandango. Thing is, I play all of my 3D (via disc) from my Panasonic 420, but pipe that through my Denon 6300 receiver and then a HDMI to my projector. I also have Apple TV and a Roku that are plugged into my receiver, but it looks like that isn't supported when playing the Vudu app and piping the 3D movie.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to play the 3D movies on Fandango at Home? Their forum doesn't look to have been updated since last year and their approved list of devices haven't been updated since 2018.

Try downloading the Fandango app on your Blu-ray 3D player, then it should work.

I had also bought the Mario movie in 3D, and found that using Vudu on a 3D Blu-ray player was the only way to get it to play frame-packed 3D.

I use my PS4. Need to crack out my PS3 to see if it still works with the Vudu app since they moved to Fandango.

Thanks all, I moved some stuff around and hooked up the Apple TV to my receiver from a different port. Seems to have worked. Now I have to see if it was the HDMI port that's the issue or something else...

So...the Fandango/Vudu 3D is a side by side image? Does that mean just those old school red and blue paper ones? Or the passive glasses like the ones used at the movie theater?

Vudu 3D is SBS, yes. Half resolution. It’s unfortunate, but does have some movie options that aren’t available on disk. You should have an option on your projector to select side by side for the displayed image and it will combine the image. Not red/blue or passive, but active 3D that your projector typically displays.

Vudu just sent me notification that some of my devices that can play 3d on Vudu will no longer be supported.

Why It better just be my 3D tv, and not my newer Blu-ray player.

They may be dropping blu-ray players. I don’t see any on their latest list. Hopefully that’s not the case.

The newest devices that play 3D are 4k blu-ray players.

If they are dumping older devices, like old TVs, that could make sense.

My guess is they just want to get out of 3D streaming completely.

It's programmed obsolescence set by corporations.

They'll support equipments not older than some years or a few downgraded versions of OSes so to make people buy newer ones. There's still the custom roms for android devices or custom Firmwares (this might come with a cost) to prolong the devices life.

My Sony BDP-S6700 has a non-functional Fandango at Home app now. I just bought a Roku LE so I can stream my movies, but it says the following for my 3D movies: "This device does not support 3D playback".

Does anyone know which Roku Devices support 3D?

Roku only via air play on the fandango at home iphone app, on android is via smart view. I highly suggest an Apple TV 4K 3rd gen, it works with fandango at home and 3D playback.

Can you be more specific? There are multiple apps on the Google Play Store with that name.

It should already be on your phone, open the quick settings panel then select "Smart View" (it could have another name depending on the device brand). its like a mirror function, then find the Roku device to link, it will send it as side by side 3D then you adjust the 3D mode on either the TV or projector.

Thanks for trying to help, BLMN, I have a Motorola, so it's "Screen Cast". It doesn't pick up the Roku, unfortunately. "Smart View" is for Samsung devices. It's the same issue as this guy: https://community.roku.com/t5/Featur...g/td-p/1019998
This was posted only two weeks ago, and he decided to return the Roku, and get a Google TV. The other casting apps I tried didn't work either.

I just sent an email to FAH support. Maybe it's an issue of the Roku LE not being powerful enough. I asked for a list of devices that support 3D content. Fingers crossed.

With the new update to the FAH app, I'm open to others sharing their experiences with what does and doesn't work for 3D content now.

Saw this on Facebook. I tried it and it actually works if you have a FireTV cube with the Fandango at Home app.

"I found a workaround to get 3D titles to play on an Amazon Fire Cube, and assume the Stick as well. If you have a 3D title that never ran to its end with some time left, hit on the icon that would play it back from the start, then proceed to your Watch List and the title should show up there. Now click on it and it will play it SBS, on a 3D TV you just have to manually put on the SBS option to view it with your glasses. It works!"

I was able to watch "Wicked" this way after struggling to do a number of the other workarounds.

I called Roku support and they told me the Ultra Roku would support 3D and once installed, I went to stream Wicked in 3D. "Device does not support 3D" I have.quite a few 3D movies on FAH due to no physical media and after recently buying Wicked in 3D, FAH seems to not want to respond to any questions regarding why they are selling content without consumer support. I will try the fire stick hack mentioned above, but if anyone knows of another device that's proven to work without having to play a game to watch it please let us know.

If you have a Roku, there is a workaround. Start your 3D movies using the Fandango app on your phone, then use the cast button to cast/airplay to your Roku. It will be in SBS format, but if your TV/Projector support it, you can combine the image from that point.

Edit: To add, you’re not losing any quality by casting/streaming it as side-by-side and combining it. It’s already half-resolution in the combined view presented by the native apps. The only difference is the TV doesn’t detect the cast as frame packed.

I tried to cast it to the Roku but the system doesn't recognise the signal as 3D and continues to play back SBS. The projectors 3D settings are grayed out as it's not receiving a 3D signal. This whole FAH debacle is frustrating after paying good money to buy and watch 3D content and for them to pull the rug as soon as you get some good 3D content. My kids were so pissed one of them used the analogy of buying a house and having a mortgage paid off, then the mortgage company bulldozers your house. There's gotta be a way of watching my 3D collection. What's it gonna take for FAH to get their act together? a class action from the consumer protection agency for selling unsupported content after leading consumers to believe that their purchases are supported by the devices they were purchased through? Ridiculous. I guess I'm gonna have to double dip on German imports or Ebay 3D knockoffs lol

Ah, bummer you can’t manually enable 3D on yours. It’s definitely annoying.
