I enjoy 'Pulp Fiction' for much, much more than just dialogue, and I think 'Brown' is an example of Tarantino going with the popular feedback that his "witty" dialogue is what carries his movies, while for me that is not the case; so we have a movie with the same type of dialogue, but not nearly as entertaining of a show. I think he milks a one-note formula of stylized dialogue and pastiche, without much regard to the overall quality of the product... that is why I find his movies to be very "hit-and-miss", I've only liked three of them (Fiction, Kill Bill, and to a lesser extent, Reservoir Dogs).
I know what you mean about "dialogue and pastiche" - he really knows how to make those scenes last. What was interesting for me about Jackie Brown is that it was much more of a drama film over Pulp Fiction (a film which for me seemed to be QT celebrating going to the movies), and for sure, it doesn't seem like a "Tarantino film" per se either, so it was something different.

You know, I really enjoyed Death Proof when I first saw it, but on repeat viewings I can't stand it for the most part because of exactly what you complained about in Jackie Brown; it's a slow film which builds up to one key moment, and a lot of that build up was just talk-talk-talk-talk-talk.

Jackie Brown, for me anyway, had a lot more depth to it than many of his other films. The characters were less caricatures a la Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill (or most certainly Inglourious Basterds), and seemed a lot more interesting, if less witty and circumstantially entertaining.

I totally understand that you didn't enjoy it, but to say that someone won't enjoy anything if they didn't like it once the first time is a little bit close-minded.

Volume 1 is sooooo much better. The cinematography, soundtrack, and fight sequences are stunning.
