Isn't The Snow Woman one of the stories/segments in Kwaidan?

Yep, also a segment (The Blizzard) in Akira Kurosawa's Dreams.

Got my copy today, horrific scrape marks on one disc. Something has to be done about the quality control, I'm getting trash discs from everywhere right now.

Just checked my discs and they're unscathed but someone on the assembly line kindly put their greasy mitts all over my The Bride From Hades inlay.

The Employee From Hades possibly...

Got my second set through, there are scratches of one kind or another on all the discs so back it goes for a refund. I won't be buying this a third time.

That’s crazy. I thought blu-rays were supposed to be scratch proof. I wonder how many of their limited/numbered box sets are damaged.

BD's have a hard protective layer over the data surface. It depends on how deep a scratch is to affect playback/access.

A disc covered in scratches also has a significantly lower market value than one without so it's not just a case of whether the disc plays, it's a matter of how much has been paid for it. If the discs are going to look like they came out of a charity shop, then I only want to pay charity shop prices.

You are entitled to pristine discs. But I should think whether the films actually work when playing is a bigger consideration than whether you can sell them on or not, surely..

I get the feeling those downplaying the significance of scratched discs are also those who rip the plastic off and bin J-cards.

The trouble with binning J-cards, slipcovers etc is that you'll get less money for the item they come from if you ever decide to sell it.

I will say the only Radiance disc I've ever had playback issues with (which the Radiance team swiftly resolved with great customer service, I will say), didn't have a single visible scratch on it. I've received plenty of discs with imperfections without any playback issues at all.

I think that there's just some grace in the manufacturing process to be given, here. Discs that come out have met the manufacturing tolerances and standards, and if there are playback issues, most of these companies are great at resolving those concerns for their customers.

If someone is bringing in discs as some sort of investment or worried about the market value of a blu ray disc, I certainly must be living in a completely different universe. These are movies, so I watch and enjoy 'em. At least we aren't buying film prints to succumb to vinegar syndrome and color fading, am I right? Just disc rot in 30-50 years or whatever

I haven't photographed all of them and both box sets have now been sent back but here's a picture of one disc. There were similar scratches on another edge too so it wasn't just these on the picture, there were more. The replacement disc I got was WORSE.

Whoa. I have some discs like that. Never impacted playback so kept them. Did it affect playback?
