He doesn't look like Bowie.
And, judging from the trailer, it seems like the movie spends a lot of time on the Pre-Ziggy phase, which was very brief anyway? I don't know. Hopefully it's better than "Bohemian Rhapsody", that was a terrible turd. |

Bohemian Rhapsody is the brown standard of biopic turds.

Watched that trailer, expecting absolutely nothing good. Well, first impression didn't even get close to 'nothing good'. Stardust is going to make Bohemian Rhapsody look like Milos Forman's Amadeus, the golden standard of film biopics (even considering that half of Amadeus is fictional).

Shrug. I'm a big Bowie fan but I'm not feeling particular hostile against this. I like Johnny Flynn and Marc Maron as actors/performers. Reviews seem okay. Doesn't feel like a cheap cash in, but it's not a real biopic either. It's more along the lines of "The Hours and Times", "Backbeat", "Nowhere Boy", or "Jimi: All Is by My Side". Just quiet dramas about people on the cusp of becoming famous musicians that didn't have the music rights. Most biopics are kinda embarrassing to watch anyway, though I'm more of a "Rocketman" guy than a "Bohemian Rhapsody" one myself.
Any way, go watch "Velvet Goldmine", a Bowie biopic that gets it rights but couldn't get the music either. |

Francis Whately made three great Bowie films for the BBC
Five Years (2013) The Last Five Years (2017) Finding Fame (2019) These are all packed with rare footage and interviews. Is there any point seeing an actor when there's footage of the real Bowie? |

That trailer feels more like a Noel Fielding impersonator dubbed by Eddie Izzard than Bowie.
