I’m currently in the process of setting up my new surround sound system. I am wondering what is considered to be the ideal position for the front “height” speakers? Should they be in line with the mains or slightly inside or outside of the mains? What is generally considered to be correct?
Thanks in advance! |

I have very little experience with Atmos placement, but would imagine that as with all other speakers, you want to maximize direct sound vs reflections. So I would avoid placing the ceiling speakers too far away from the seats and too close to the walls. Naturally room height is an important factor here.
Looking at the Dolby guideline, it seems like the recommendation is to place the ceiling speakers in such relation to each other, that the horizontal dispersion range (normally 90 degrees or so) of the spakers overlaps at the main listening position. Last edited by Necril; 11-13-2024 at 08:03 AM. |

Also if you are setting up your speaker config in your receiver, many of them will have a graphical display showing how it will arrange the audio based on your setup.
If anything, you can adjust your speakers to better match what the receiver will unfold the soundfield to. Adjust and make changes after initial calibration, if desired. |
