I had a sync problem on the holy virgin vs evil dead so I changed the dts on my panasonic from bitstream to pcm and now its no longer a problem.

I think you may be up to something. Panasonic players seem to have a lot of issues after the latest firmware update, including Dolby Vision hiccups. I have no problems at all with this disc using my Oppo player.

I had a samsung player and that had no problem then when I got a panasonic player it had no problems then when I updated it and had no problems its only when I got holy virgin vs evil dead thats when the sync sound problems started but after changing bitstream to pcm I have watched the film twice the problem as gone.

TBF i think i've bought more Eureka than 88 titles this year. I'm into old school martial arts and those 70's GH titles that Eureka have been releasing have great appeal to me.

Is this subtitle delay intentional or a mistake in disc authoring perhaps?
It seems to be ~250ms out of sync in this spot which is in line with what another said about audio being out of sync by that much.

These were my original timings.

15
00:02:24,575 --> 00:02:25,800
You truly have Buddha's nature.

16
00:02:25,900 --> 00:02:28,675
No, my family is poor
and can't afford meat.

If that helps at alll?

It does yes, thank you so much for confirming my suspicions. The subtitle timings were in fact changed it seems like and then the audio could in fact also be out of sync then, and this does indeed seem like a mistake. The timings you wrote are while the child is still talking.

The line indicates 00:02:24,574
While the child is still speaking.

I changed the lines via waveform that were in the previous image to show better accuracy, but, of course this is only a small sample of a few lines being out of sync with the audio in places for some strange reason.

The original lines are:

15
00:02:26,564 --> 00:02:27,773
You truly have Buddha's nature.

16
00:02:27,940 --> 00:02:30,651
No, my family is poor
and can't afford meat.

And I changed it to:

15
00:02:26,242 --> 00:02:27,640
You truly have Buddha's nature.

16
00:02:27,665 --> 00:02:30,521
No, my family is poor
and can't afford meat.

I hope I'm not just nitpicking, but if your subs are different than what's on disc, something got changed last minute with audio and subs before pressing discs.

The audio is definitely out of sync, at least on the 4K disc. Extremely disappointing, especially considering how compromised so many previous releases of this film have been. Unfortunately I don’t think enough people have even noticed in order to hope for a replacement.

OOS audio is a big deal. If you guys can find a way to prove it (i.e. with clips and comparisons) then maybe 88 Films will fix it?

Audio is fine and in sync when I play the disc on my Oppo. For those having issues with this, try switching AUDIO OUT to "bitstream".

Is that something I can do on a PlayStation 5? Also, why would this only be happening on this one disc?

I have no way to accomplish this unfortunately.

I do not have a PS5, so I am not sure, but I imagine so. As to why this happens, the fact of the matter is that odd compatibility bugs are nothing new, particularly with the UHD format.

The PS5 did indeed have this setting, but it did not fix the problem. The audio is still microseconds earlier than it should be.

I have a strong feeling that not enough people will notice. It’s a shame that there’s STILL no great release for this film.

This talk of sync issues has put me completely off purchasing this, even though I'd previously opined that the movie is one of the worst offenders for visible wires. I do enjoy balletic wirework but usually they are either scrubbed or well hidden; not apparently the case here and presumably the 4K exacerbates the issue.

The main reason I want to upgrade from DD Uk dvd is that there are clearly audio issues as some foley fx are jarringly loud and arguably out of sync. So is any audio issue merely related to source? Or was the Cantonese track on DD DVD a bad remix of the original?

Actually, just looking into it on Rewind, that dvd is an edited version with a messed up soundtrack, so I guess my questions are:

Is the 4K a different edit with original foley work?
Are the sync issues typical of the genre or is there a genuine problem here?
If so, has 88 acknowledged this?

If you are talking about the Dragon Dynasty releases - then, no, those are not cut. Even dvdcompare will tell you that. Only change, I believe, is the English titles.

I think the audio on that may have been just the remix.
