I watched it in IMAX 3D (xenon), it was very dark (as seen in the trailers) but it had good 3D moments at the beginning and in the last part, with a few in between but it clearly wasn't shot with 3D in mind, many things get cut out of the screen ruining the 3D effect. There's a scene with floating flowers that looks amazing but many of them are cut at the sides. I think the most impressive 3D shot was one of a balloon inside a tall narrow tower with sparks flying all around.
In terms of 3D I'd say The Wizard of Oz >> Oz the Great and Powerful >> Wicked. I'm not a fan of musicals but I don't get why many people hate them, I enjoyed them and I enjoyed this one. The story and themes were great too. I'm not really a fan of prequels explaining things that didn't need explanation like why the yellow brick is yellow but other things did made sense. Even if the most boring song had the best visuals and funnest choreography while the most iconic song had the dullest choreography for half the song lmao There was only one IMAX 3D showing (at 1:40 pm) and two IMAX 2D showings but still it was at least half full, even at that time. Maybe the fact that the IMAX 2D showings were in Spanish made more people prefer the 3D showing lol. I hope those people enjoyed the 3D version and are wanting to watch more 3D. Being Universal I really hope Turbine can give us the 3D Bluray because even if it's not the best 3D presentation, I think it's worth it. |
