paidgeek:

Sorry if this has been asked before...

For the US release of Paprika, do you have any insight on the encode and master?

It seems that there has been some disappointment regarding the French and Japanese releases of this and I am curious if we are looking at an encoding issue or master issue with respect to this title, and if the US release is expected to be an improvement or 'more of the same'...?

Thanks Penton Man, I'm glad to know you still stop by every now and again. And like I said, I (we) all really appreciate you participating here and all your hard work at your "day job".

Enjoy your sabbatical.

paidgeek,

Bram Stoker's Dracula just got slammed on Highdefdigest.com.

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/252/...rsdracula.html

The PQ got 2 and a 1/2 stars which unfortunately makes it rate in the bottom 12 or so of the hundreds of BD's reviewed yet. I'm sure it can't be THAT bad, maybe just in comparison to expectations. Bracke says surprisingly there are dirt and blemishes on the print, (IIRC, the Superbit DVD had lots of those as well...) Is Bracke just way off..? I remember the film being slightly soft style-wise in many scenes in the theater but this just sounds like they used a several year old master and did virtually no work.

One of my faves and I'm bummed if it really if it's this disappointing.

Along with the use of the pop up menu to make any setup changes or jump to a scene it worked perfectly for me. I think all blu-ray movies should be authored this way unlike the POTC DMC which takes forever before you actually get to see the movie.
I think a lot of people feel the opposite, at least about the menu. I really don't like it when the movie just starts with no menu. In contrast, not being forced to watch previews is definitely a big plus.

Bracke has had some really atrocious reviews (Apocalypto for one), so I don't put much, if any, stock in his opinion. I am interested in paidgeek's comments, though, as I was planning on getting Bram Stoker's Dracula on BD (I never bothered to get it on DVD for some reason).

Well it doesnt sound much like there are any good news comming to us, quite the opposite, if he had some good news , he allready had posted them.

Actually the sentence "as there is alot going on behind the scenes that I can’t talk about anyway." makes me a little bit worried.

we'll see.

Paidgeek:

This question is actually regarding two titles whose distribution rights are owned by Lionsgate. (I think).

I realize you do not like to give specific dates, so can you just comment on whether Darren Aronofsky's

Pi

and

Requiem for a Dream

are being considered for a Blu-ray release? Are they in the production queue?

It was great that Warner released the Fountain, but I was very dissapointed with DD5.1 audio. Hopefully Lionsgate will give us lossless on these two earlier films.

Yeah, "exceedingly good" and "put a smile on everyone's face" doesn't sound like bad news to me.

Get the British version from Fox. It has DTS HD MA and sounds great. Video is MPEG-2 (BD-50).

Edit: It's Region B only though, I think. I don't know if Fox has a Japanese release out.
