Guess what, some more blu-ray ordering happened. Sailor Suit and Machine Gun worked really well for me, so I went on a Shinji Somai splurge with these TWF titles from Terracotta. Ordered direct to India, so fingers tightly crossed about duty

Rarewaves reminded me that I had sufficient reward points for a 10 quid voucher, which would expire next month, so I used it for an item that had been long pending on my wishlist - The Agnes Varda Collection (Artificial Eye). It's not as exhaustive as the Criterion set (more of a Greatest Hits, I imagine), but I am okay with that since this is entirely a blind-buy that sounds interesting.
Hope there are no big issues with the encodes/authoring. ![]() |

Ordered a bunch of stuff to my own address in India from...
Eureka: I haven't seen any of the Wallace Krimi (crime films inspired by the novels of Edgar Wallace and his son Bryan), but the trailer provided by Eureka for their 5-film boxset promises some pulpy fun with striking chiaroscuro B&W visuals. I generally like Johnnie To films (Mad Detective and Breaking News are my favs), and PTU (Police Tactical Unit) seems like an intriguing take on Kurosawa's Stray Dog. ![]() ![]() Rarewaves: Naya Nosferatu was the first Robert Eggers movie I enjoyed as much as I admired, a virile old-skool horror melodrama - yes a little too talky, but fabulous lead performances and some amazing visuals and sound. I had a good time with Avatar 2 when I saw it at the cinema (in Dec 2022) and it's definitely a technical achievement (water being one of the most notoriously difficult CGI elements). I don't have 4K at the moment, but this was the only way to get the "bonus" extras disc that came with the CE (who knows if I am even going to watch it through? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by ravenus; 02-23-2025 at 09:03 AM. |

From Cauldron Films shop, ordered to a relative in the US, God knows when I'll get it in hand. Not my most economical purchase, but Cries and Shadows was a guilty pleasure from my boyhood, watching this sleazy Italian Exorcist ripoff on VHS when the folks were not around. I have hazy recollection of parts of it are genuinely gonzo, looking like they were captures from a real asylum. American Rickshaw is a blind buy that also sounds pleasantly crazy.

Went on an absolute bender at Rarewaves using their 10% Easter coupon. That's not a great discount, especially considering RW have significantly higher prices than some other sites for specific titles, but at least I don't have any credit card issues, and they usually ship items separately so there's a better chance of not getting whacked by the customs. I do hope things come in smoothly cuz if I have to pay duties, I will be fakked!
