I’m surprised Criterion hasn’t released a UHD of their seven Hitch titles… It would be awesome to have all of those in 4K. The Lodger, Notorious, and Rebecca would be my most desired of the seven if I could only have 3.

For those who haven't been following along in the international thread, Studio Canal's release of Hitchcock's early films is so far a home run.

Rich and Strange's audio error has been fixed.

Blackmail's AR for the talkie version has also been fixed. No more "too fat" or "too skinny" depending on what version you watched on the kino disc. It's also been cleaned up extensively and looks a lot better to my eyes.

The discs are locked to Region B but if you do the "top menu trick" it allows you to play the discs.

Were there any other issues with any of the kino discs? Those were the only two I could remember from back then. If there are, I have copies of both, so I'd be happy to check.

Kino's releases of Rich and Strange and Blackmail will definitely be going to my sell pile.

The only other quirk I recall is that Mary (the German Murder!) was standard def, but that may be the only transfer of it that exists.

Do you have a link for purchasing these?

I’d rather they focus on the three titles that are still stuck on laserdisc that being Young and Innocent, Secret Agent, and Sabotage these take priority over upgrading titles that already have Blu-Rays.

Importcds.com has the lower price at $74. I also checked Deepdiscountdvd and unfortunately the most recent coupon 15% (GIFT15) just expired. Ended up ordering at Import Cds website.

Do they even have the rights to those anymore?
I contacted them multiple times over the years requesting a Criterion Blade Runner release and they said it was never going to happen… they even asked me to stop asking.

Honestly, I don’t think they do which makes me wonder who owns the rights to those titles now. It’s quite fascinating wondering who owns these titles now maybe Shout! Factory, Arrow Video.

If you're in the US, OrbitDVD has it in stock, and DiabolikDVD is current OOS but expecting more. Maybe other retailers that I haven't used myself.

I have a region-free BD player, so don't know if this "trick" works with other machines. I'm sure that info can be easily found online.

I have been watching the box and have to agree, it is a major upgrade. Nothing to add on what you have said but more generally on the box, it is just as I would hope a box would be presented. It appears well made, discs are crossed, so one has to be removed to get to the disc behind, but importantly they are not stacked. My box was a little beat up at the two corners but I won't be replacing it for those faults as I know that any replacement could suffer the same. The card used will sadly not be pristine long on many of these boxes as the card-stock used is not especially hard-wearing, that would have been where I might have put better material into this. One thing to note, no titles on the two inner case spines. Doesn't bother me, but might be a consideration for others.

I uploaded some images for others to see who are thinking about the box.

To the best of my knowledge, Janus still has all of the Gaumont Hitchcocks in the U.S. Both Sabotage and Young and Innocent have been perennially available as streaming from Criterion since the Hulu days. The mystery is Secret Agent, which also has never had a hidef release anywhere. I’ve long wondered if a big restoration is being conducted for that one.

Yes it is. Just open up your blu-ray collection here on the site (easiest way is to click on the link under your avatar). When you do this, you will see some options next to your user name. Click on "Stats" and then scroll down. Some pretty cool info about your collection, including the stat I attached. Mind you, it includes your DVD collection stats as well.

The only downside of the stats is that not every movie here on the site has all it's information or in some case may be inaccurate. But, that can easily be fixed. Playing games here I have spotted many films with no cast and crew information. So, I do what I can if I have the time.
