While the movie takes some getting used to, the 3D gives it a lot of immersion with consistently strong 3D throughout, and I'd say on par with many of the NWave 3D titles. If you haven't seen Open Season 3D yet, it's a must-have for animated CGI 3D movie fans in my opinion. 10/10 3D.

I should rewatch. It was my first 3D at home title and through that I discovered cross talk and spent the whole time worrying about cross talk and adjusting settings to try and fix it. But now I have a tv with much less cross talk and I'd be able to enjoy this a lot more. I didn't realize this was considered one of the best 3Ds.

Open Season is an amazing animated CGI 3D showcase with mostly strong 3D, all the way back from 2006, around the start of the modern Theatrical and Home 3D blu ray Era we're lucky to have experienced in recent times. (2006 through 2019, plenty of theatrical 3D and blu ray 3D releases).
I'd say Open Season's strong 3D is compared to some of NWave's 3D films. NWave seems to have eased up on the 3D intensity in their newer films to some degree. Compare the 3D in them to the Turtle's Tales films' 3D for example. Not as strong. |

He really pushed to break into the US theatrical 3D market back with Wild Life/Robinson Crusoe 3D, which I supported that one weekend it was in 3D theaters at Cinemark back then, and saw it, but it didn't earn much of an audience and I've never seen another NWave film in theaters at all since then unfortunately. They were the kings of animated CGI 3D for a good run there. Fly with Me I have on DVD anaglyph 3D, and it's got strong 3D for much of it if I recall, the one about the Martians flying to the moon or something. It's been a few years now. I'll have to give it another run, but I remember the movie is in color and the anaglyph red/cyan affects the results unfortunately. Anaglyph 3D works best with black&white/gray scale movies IMO. |
