Anyone over age 12 which is most of us that lived through the VHS era, the dumping on this or that 4k is really overblown generally. You want to see the film. So see it. What are you going to do, buy a ancient VHS or DVD because some randos said the 4k is subpar? Subpar compared to what? Maybe since the 4k the Paramount presents blu prices have come down, I dont know, it's a great film and blu or 4k I really dont think you can go wrong. Not like its probably ever going to get another release. People always find something to complain about. I think I saw it in theaters, well 35mm projection presentation is no longer available, I may have then seen it on VHS or standard def cable on a CRT. Never seen the film in HD, still need to buy a copy, never owned it.

I'm not saying I'm not going to see it or buy it, just made it less of a priority to rush and get. I've lived through every media itertion, I'm fine with a not so great presentation, but I usually try to save first viewings for the best possible experience.

Dont know if this is old news or not...

John Woo, Chow Yun-fat Classics Among 156-Film Golden Princess Library Acquired by Shout! Studios (EXCLUSIVE)

https://variety.com/2025/film/news/j...os-1236272850/

Doesn't do much for me, it'll be interesting to see if Shout starts moving more towards HK and less horror as they deplete their library/rights.

This is going to be huge for Shout, some of the most requested titles in cinema are the Hong Kong John Woo's. I am in for these.

I wonder if they will license to UK distributors like Arrow or Eureka?

It's an objective win that these are going to see release. I hope Shout does well by them and by the fans who have been waiting so long for these.

The acquisition’s crown jewels include Woo’s action masterpieces “Hard Boiled,” “The Killer,” the complete “Better Tomorrow” trilogy, “Bullet in the Head” and “Once a Thief.” The library also boasts Ringo Lam’s “City on Fire,” “Prison on Fire” and its sequel; Eric Tsang’s “Aces Go Places”; Tsui’s “Peking Opera Blues”; Tony Ching’s “Chinese Ghost Story” trilogy; and additional hits like Wai Ka-fai’s “Peace Hotel,” Andrew Kam and Johnnie To’s “The Big Heat” and Alex Law’s “Now You See It, Now You Don’t.”

Heck yes

I guess this means we can finally get The Killer and Hard Boiled in 4K plus Blu-Ray. More John Woo is always good news I'm pretty excited about this as I need a lot more Hong Kong titles in my collection.

If Shout! Factory wants to go all in on Hong Kong Cinema then I am perfectly for it this is amazing news, and I cannot wait to get Blu-Ray announcements of City on Fire, Bullet to the Head, Chinese Ghost Story, The Killer, Hard Boiled, and many more.

I'm also really into John Woo movies I mean I even enjoyed Silent Night, which many people think isn't that good of a film. I on the other hand had a lot of fun with that film.

The Killer and Hard Boiled definitely need new/better releases. This is great news!

..also holding out hope that Shout/Scream produces a release of Doctor Sleep with the extended version on 4K. Sounds like something that they might actually do..
