Shout also subbed out a ton of ITV stuff to Scorpion and one title to Kino (which they originally got from Umbrella Entertainment).
Best we could hope for is Shout agreeing to license something else they own, but have no interest in releasing (like Gillian Armstrong's Starstruck) to get Criterion's commentary tracks

Having seen and sold the WKW set, each disc is a different kind of negative (not all are horrible, but I can't remember one that was objectively good), and the best way I can describe the set as a whole is "disappointing".

That being said, in the 4K of ITMFL, is the Blu remastered, and are there any unique features?

I'm seeing a lot of talk about anniversary-driven releases in here. And maybe I just am not paying close enough attention, but from my experience, anniversary-driven releases are more of a studio thing than a boutique label thing.

Studios can sit on their titles forever and wait for an anniversary to roll around to help motivate them in terms of how they manage their vast catalogue, but I think boutique labels just go after specific titles they think will do well right now and get them out when they can.

I'm sure there's exceptions, but that's my general perception.

I can't believe tomorrow is already the 15th. Here are my predictions:

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 4K
The Burmese Harp 4K
Basquiat 4K
O Lucky Man! 4K
World Cinema Project Volume 5

Not that it matters since at most I get one right, but I had numerous substitutions this month and they sort of broke down as follows:

French film: Jean de Florette / Manon of the Spring or The Time Masters
Japanese Film: High & Low 4K
Notable new acquisition: The Favourite 4K
Warner : Barry Lyndon 4K, Philadelphia Story 4K, Captain Blood 4K
Wildcard: Chantal Akerman Vol. 2 boxset?

Scanners or Brood 4k
Something from/released in 2024 Blu-ray
Coen Brothers 4K
A foreign film boxset

This seems like kind of a shady move, unless you informed the buyer that they would be getting the 2021 disc.

Obviously, I'm incredibly transparent about what I'm selling, what's included, the condition, etc., I wouldn't still be selling Blus with strongly positive feedback otherwise.

Not only does the 4K have the controversial remastered BD, but they dropped the booklet from the 2012 release and just used whatever essay was written for the film in the WKW set, and they dropped one of the disc extras from the 2012 release too.

Ironic how Criterion upgrades the BD with a 4K release literally the one time we do not want them too lol. (At least until WAGES OF FEAR, which fortunately got a remastered BD due to it being a different cut.)

OK, sorry for any confusion. It was just how your original note read, no offense was intended!

If we finally got O Lucky Man! or any of the WB titles, it would make the whole damn slate for me. OLM is so obviously with Criterion, and likely has been since whenever the DVD went out of print.

While I'd love all three of the other ones, the fact that all copies of OLM regardless of format are now going for criminal prices makes me want that film just a little bit more.

That's just one 4K I don't need to buy.

I love 4Ks and want 4Ks, but a quality copy of the film comes first.

Even if that means paying one f*cking hundred and eighty three dollars for the Blu-ray of Chungking Express.

I'm always hoping for more Classic Hollywood. In the last few years they seem to be few and far between.

I'm hoping for:

Captain Blood (1935)
The More the Merrier (1943)
Talk of the Town (1942)
Ball of Fire (1941)
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945)
Baby Face (1933)
Red Headed Woman (1932)
The Divorcee (1930)

Some of my biggest wants from Criterion:

The Adventures of Antoine Doinel 4K Collection (all of the films already restored/remastered in 4K in France - just no subtitles)
Akira Kurosawa box-set (a retrospective of some sort)
Chungking Express 4K
Chantal Akerman Vol. 2 Box Set (seems plausible considering new BFI sets and foreign comprehensive collection)
Anora 4K
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 4K
A Woman Under the Influence 4K

It would be nice to see a blu release of Talk of the Town from Criterion since Sony bizarrely put it out on 4K but not blu. At this point, I'm not sure how viable such a release would be, but I would definitely buy a blu copy.

Still holding out hope for a Criterion 4K release of Killers of the Flower Moon.

Maybe this year.

- The Films of Kinuyo Tanaka
- Tokyo Twilight 4K (1957, Yasujirō Ozu)
- The Intruder (1962, Roger Corman)
- Seijun Suzuki's Flesh Trilogy: Gate of Flesh (1964), Story of a Prostitute (1965), Carmen from Kawachi (1966)

- Seven Days in May 4K (1964, John Frankenheimer)
- Le deuxième souffle 4K (1966, Jean-Pierre Melville)
- Profound Desires of the Gods 4K (1968, Shōhei Imamura)
- The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1970, Vittorio De Sica)
- Minnie and Moskowitz (1971, John Cassavetes)

- Mahler (1974, Ken Russell)
- They All Laughed (1981, Peter Bogdanovich)
- The Brother from Another Planet (1984, John Sayles)
- Running on Empty 4K (1988, Sidney Lumet)
- Eureka (2000, Shinji Aoyama)

And some hopeless hopes...

- The other 9 Ginger & Fred musicals.

- Anything from Mikio Naruse, preferably other than Floating Clouds (1955) and When a Woman Ascends the Stairs (1960).

Don't know of any specific issues with the 4K but I do know that the previous Criterion Blu-ray used a shorter cut of Wages of Fear that was considered the best release until BFI released a 4K restoration on Blu-ray 2017 that featured a longer cut (That should be uncut).

And speaking of different versions, it's kind of disappointing that the theatrical cut of Picnic at Hanging Rock (Plus the mono) is still not available in the US. Second Sight has been nice enough to include both of them at least (Which I'm 99% sure is because of Weir's decisions to do so). And now I think Janus Films is getting ready to do some theatrical screenings for the restoration, which isn't great, but still would give people the chance to see this amazing Australian masterpiece on the big screens!

On a side note, I could imagine a 4K UHD of Diabolique, which has been released on disc a while ago as well.

My wishlist for new to Blu-Ray Criterion releases that I want are these ones
White Dog
Man Bites Dog while I am buying the imprint Blu-Ray I hope this leads to Criterion putting it out themselves
Dead Presidents do it Criterion
Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Power Sidney Lumet would really like to see Criterion put this out it would be great as it has been a while since Criterion put out a new to Blu-Ray Lumet title
Crimewave 1986 Canadian film no relation to the Sam Raimi film
Blood and Wine If we’re going to do more new to Blu-Ray Fox Searchlight titles then I think Criterion should start with this one.
