Default Requiem for a Dream (2000) (Director's Cut)

Requiem for a Dream Blu-ray
Requiem for a Dream Blu-ray Review

Requiem for a Dream
Audio commentaries with the director and the director of photography
"Making of" Documentary
Deleted scenes
Cast interviews
Trailers / TV Spots

1080p AVC accompanied by 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack

I found this BD today at Best Buy early and their sticker price was 17.99 but quickly noticed Walmart.com had it at 12.32 so I took it to customer service and they price matched it... took them awhile to decide to do it since Walmart.com didn't have an image under the listed yet.

I think amazon.com has it for 10.00 ish currently anyhow.

I quickly glanced at it and their is glorious grain but not a ton... I don't think there was DNR issues... it looks solid for the way it was filmed. It is way better looking than the DVD.. so far the black levels are nice and that pesky video noise on darkened scenes seem to be gone.

I say buy it for sure if you like the film and donate those old DVD copies.

Can't wait to get this.....I was depressed for an entire day after watching it, but it was incredibly powerful and overall just an awesome movie. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a blind buy because of how powerful the movie is, and some people might really hate it, but to me, a 9.99 price tag is almost an insult to this apparently awesome release (noting Martin's review).

Is this the unrated director's cut?

Yes it is the UNRATED DIRECTORS CUT says so on top of cover art... and also on back of case under the rating listing. I don't think they were gonna release the R - Rated cut on BD at all.

$9.99 at Amazon makes this a no-brainer.

Same here; one of the saddest movies ever!

I can't wait to see it again in high-def and feel the pain all over again.

Brilliant movie.

It's still powerful, but ever since my friend commented on Jared Leto's Saturday Night Fever New York accent, it makes me laugh for awhile before I get back into it.

Now, we just need Pi...

Yes, we need all of Darren Aronofsky's films on BD! Only "π" remains unreleased!

I believe Pi was shot on 16mm. Due to the way they shot that film, a possible Blu-ray really would not look that much better than the dvd.

Sure it would. 16mm still has a higher resolution than HD video, so there would definitely be an increase in clarity compared to a standard def DVD.

Spinal Tap was shot quickly and cheaply on 16mm, and the new blu-ray beats the DVD in every respect.

It's sentiments like that that prevent a lot of 16mm TV shows from being released on blu.

I'm interested to know if π could be made available in widescreen. The DVD I have looks like it's fullscreen; is that really the OAR?

The Pi DVD released by Artisan in the US was widescreen (1.66:1).

Oops, you're right. My mistake; I just remembered it being square-ish and didn't think it was the 1.66:1 ratio.

$9.99 at Amazon? That is a stunningly low price. I thought this was a great film, arguably the best of 2000. But at the same time, it's one of those films that I don't particularly care to ever watch again. $9.99 is a hell of a deal though.

It's something I'd want to own even if I can only watch it once every few years. Can't say no to that price.

There are so many great cinematic moments in this movie that I couldn't imagine watching it less than 20 times a year. It's my third favorite movie behind The Shining and Pinocchio. 9.99$ really is almost an insult. I suppose it's not even 2 disc.

I'm wondering what the catch is. Is the transfer awful or something?

Most of the releases around the world were non-anamorphic.
