If I had to go with one word to describe it, it would be "bland". Spoiler thoughts but this is just a rejected Disney XD show like 2017.

[Show spoiler]First off, I will say I did like the pizza robber scene in Episode 1. Did come off the closest to Spidey there. And while Colman Domingo sounded good as Norman, I will admit there wasn't enough yet to really confirm that.

Otherwise, rest feels like (for lack of a better word) corporation-approved stuff like 2017. It's not as insultingly bad as some people said but everything from Peter's "erm ahtcualli" nerd characterization to his sidecast consisting of random Marvel characters like The Wizard of all people instead of his actual sidecast just feels random. Honestly, this Peter nearly comes off as a Gary Stu since Ben's been thrown out the window and there's not much else to contrast with the "puppy nice guy" persona. And the animation is unshaded crap but y'all knew that.

As for Lonnie, the implications of his story going up against racial discrimination do show promise but I fear that what leads him to become Tombstone may end up being as tone-deaf as Frank Castle's forced blackface way back when.

I watched the first two episodes and normally I avoid describing shows as “pandering” or “checking off race groups” but it is so blatant in this. There are two main characters who are caucasion while the rest are either African/Wakandan or Asian. It is sticks out like a sore thumb.

Also, it really does feel like a long form What If? episode with a lot of “remakes” of famous MCU Spidey scenes. It also does not help that Ned went from Asian boy to Nico, an Asian girl. I’ll stick with it until I either finish it or the constant “race pandering” gets far to annoying.

Two different characters there my man. Ganke Lee (come on, MCU Ned was just him) and Nico Minoru are not the same at all.

Sure my guy. She is obviously set up as his “best friend” ala Ned. Right down to the encouraging Pete to go after the girl.

sounds like Tom Holland is voicing Spider-Man in the series as well, it is hard to tell with Peter/Spider-Man's voice

I mean, to be fair, it takes place in NY, which is one of the most diversely populated cities not only in the US, but in the world. It's where I currently live, and I can confirm that if you go even a single city block, chances are you'll run into just about every type of person you can think of. I'd argue that if there wasn't more diverse characters on the show, it would be an inaccurate representation of NY, which again, is sort of known for being diverse. Comic book show or not, alternate timeline or not, people know NY and what it's like, and if you don't show that correctly, it's gonna pull people out of the show (fantastical or not).

It's not Tom Holland, it's the same guy who voices Peter/Spider-Man in What If.

Hmmm...96% vs. only 69% user score on RT. Lets go see what the masses are finding so objectionable that the critics are not. *looks at top user review* Yeah, that sounds about white.

I'd wondered if that was him, but I couldn't swear to it. What a cool opportunity for that guy. They should just make him the new Stan Lee at this point.

nope it's not the same guy, the creators confirmed that it isn't connected to the MCU, but it is connected to the bigger Spider Verse, that was started by Sony

It has already been confirmed that it's Klev

Pretty cool to confirm that Klev exists outside of the Sacred Timeline

The art style is a huge turnoff, and I cant be the only one who prefers "adult spiderman with adult problems" over "high school drama spiiderman" that Disney keeps pushing. So this is a nonwatch here.

So it's connected to Morbius and Madame Web?

It is NOT connected to the Sonyverse. Look at the Wikipedia page for this, other characters from the MCU are going to be appearing, some voiced by the original actors.
