I don’t know if there is another similar thread but someone will let you know if there is.
La marca del vampiro / Mark Of The Vampire (1935) ![]() I found this Spanish DVD release last summer at a local community centre table top sale. It has English subtitles but my old Sony DVD player removes them with the options button. I’ve since upgraded to the WAC Blu-ray but I still love this DVD and will be keeping it in my collection. Frankenstein: The Legacy Collection: ![]() My last non-US/Canada and UK DVD I bought was this German release of the Frankenstein Legacy Boxset. Strangely it only includes 5 films and misses out Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman and House Of Dracula from the Universal Frankenstein series. I have Frankenstein on 13 different releases and Bride Of Frankenstein on 12 different releases spread over VHS, DVD and Blu-ray but this is the only release I have that is non-US/ Canada or UK released. |

If there was an existing thread at the time I started this one, I could ask for this thread to be merged with that one.
In the end, some DVD releases of films I have on Blu-ray could be worth keeping because they may have extras/bonus features that are exclusive to that DVD release. And then there are some films (and TV series) which haven't had Blu-ray releases. There are some German DVD releases of a recent Canadian drama series (Heartland) that I want to try and get sometime during this year (the UK DVD releases stopped over three years ago (boutique label 4 Digital Media was releasing them here). |

I picked up this The Creature Walks Among Us (1956) DVD released by Koch Media. I’m unable to find it on this website, unless I’m looking in the wrong places.

I've done a search of the database here in the DVD section, using the English and German language titles of this film (found the German language title in the IMDb section for The Creature Walks Among Us), and couldn't find the Koch Media DVD release either.

At one point I thought there hadn't been a physical media release of eighties anthology series Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense. Came across a German DVD release of it while checking Amazon.de for other older television series some time ago. It came out in Germany six and a half years ago from label Pidax. A four-disc set.
Does anyone here have this German release? I thought it best to ask in this DVD Movies thread, instead of starting a new thread. UK TV channel Talking Pictures started showing the series a few Friday nights ago. I know the series is owned by Disney (being as 20th Century Fox were involved in this television series), so there doesn't seem much chance of a Blu-ray release. German label Pidax are a bit mixed with their releases. I've wanted to know how the transfers on their DVD release compare to other German DVD releases of older television series. |

DTSBOY, I noticed in one of your posts in the latest haul thread in UK & Ireland that you've bought a copy of the German DVD release of Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense. No rush, but when you are able to start watching the episodes, can you comment please on the picture quality and audio.

Have checked the Blu-ray section of the database here and can only find a German release of documentary I Am Nancy. I'll check sometime to see if I have the US DVD release, as based on a user review here of the German Blu-ray, the transfer isn't very good at all, and it doesn't have some of the extras on the US DVD.

I recently watched DIRECTED BY STEPHEN CHOW
CJ7 (2008) The DVD double-disc release in Mainland China includes both the main feature and a behind-the-scenes disc. Although a Blu-ray version has already been released, some of the exclusive behind-the-scenes content on the DVD still remains a major draw for me. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have a habit of scanning backups. |

The last DVD I watched was the Asia Tartan Extreme ‘Hard Boiled’. Confused the hell out of me with that cropped aspect ratio in the beginning, as I’ve previously had DVDs play wrong on my system and look like that. Spent ages looking up ways to fix it before I found a mention of it in a review - that it was deliberate.
Brilliant film anyway, hope we get a 4K release now that library has been opened up. |

Started watching recently:
![]() This was an experiment, to see if it used the same remastered/transferred to HD masters in the Complete Collection DVD boxset released in the States (*). An explanation: - Seasons 1 to 9 of the original Hawaii Five-O were remastered/transferred to HD. Season 10 didn't get the same treatment. There were apparently complaints, then CBS/Paramount did the same with Seasons 11 and 12 what they did with the first nine seasons. They went back and remastered Season 10 which was included in the later complete series DVD boxset. The series was released on DVD in Australia by Via Vision in two sets (I don't know if the remastered Season 10 was included in the second set). - On watching the first three episodes on Disc One in the German DVD release of The Tenth Season, I can confirm that to my eyes these look remastered/transferred to HD. - However, there is a catch. In the original US DVD release of The Tenth Season, a promo was shown before the episode started (note, not the same as the episodic promos narrated by Jack Lord (yes, the footage is very similar, but the promos had no narration). The episodic promos were included as special features in the Season 2 to 9 DVD boxsets (the promos were included in the season 9 set). It could be that the Jack Lord-narrated episodic promos were dropped after the ninth season of the show. The promos (either 30 or 60 seconds long) seemed to be common with US television series in the seventies and eighties. It doesn't bother me too much, the promos not being included in the German DVD set of The Tenth Season as they do contain spoilers, although it would have been nice for them to be there for completists' sake. The episodic promos for Hawaii Five-O, like the brief teasers in the original Equalizer TV series, were clever at times with the order the clips were shown in (not in the order they appeared in the episodes). Basically, when you select an episode from the menu screen in the German DVD set of Hawaii Five-O: The Tenth Season, it cuts straight to the title sequence. (*) It states "The Complete Series", but one season 2 episode has never been included in any of the physical media releases - "Bored, She Hung Herself". |
