I see Locked today and quite enjoyed it. It has a good pace and I didn’t get bored. There are a few humorous moments. The ending was a bit of an eye roll but it was fine.
Glad I saw it, won’t see it again. One MASSIVE plot hole [Show spoiler] 6.5/10 maybe a 7/10. Great one-watch. |

Three and a half stars
Eddie, a down-on-his-luck low-level criminal played by Bill Skarsgård, is desperate for one big break that will land him enough money to get his van back from the mechanic shop and to help him straighten out his life so that he can be a better father to his daughter. When he spots a luxurious black sports utility vehicle in a city parking lot and realizes that the door is unlocked, he climbs inside, hoping to find something of value in the glove compartment. As a wise man once said, however, poor decisions make better stories. Eddie is now trapped inside the heavily-modified SUV and at the mercy of its diabolical owner, played by Anthony Hopkins, who is controlling the vehicle by remote. The 2025 action thriller, Locked, directed by David Yarovesky as an English-language remake of a 2019 Argentinian film, makes its mark on the map by way of Skarsgård, who is best known for his villain roles in the horror films, IT (2017) and Nosferatu (2024). His transition from a twitchy petty thief to a panicked prisoner has a grounded aura of relatable realism. Unfortunately, the relatability of the lead is also the downfall of this film in my eyes. I think that the script takes the easy way out by introducing Eddie as a hapless ne'er-do-well instead of making him out to be a less-sympathetic lawbreaker. This play on morality, where Eddie is forced to consider his ill-advised life choices while being tortured by Hopkins's wealthy psychopath, would have been more cerebrally intense had Eddie been depicted as a less likable antihero. The most rewarding aspect of Locked is its claustrophobic close-quarters camera perspectives and jerky cinematography, all of which work well to put us in the headspace of Eddie, who is trapped like a rat in a tiny cage for the duration of the story. For those of us who have had to endure time in a vehicle where the temperature settings and the music selections are not to our liking, this setup is our ultimate nightmare. This movie is a one-and-done for me, but it is still quite entertaining on a surface level. Last edited by The Great Owl; 03-22-2025 at 07:14 PM. |

For a second I thought this Locked thread got Locked, but it would've said Closed instead with an icon of a lock.
This movie got tossed into the 21 films releasing in March 2025. Way too many for most people to see in 1 month unless retired I'd say or able to see a new movie 21 days of 31 or bundle a few films per day in theaters. On topic, it looks mildly interesting, but in its defense, I really liked the film Retribution with Liam Neeson, which takes place almost fully inside of his SUV/car for most of it. But it was entertaining as I imagine this could be. Only thing here is can Skarsgard carry a whole film as the hero character like Neeson can? I'm not convinced yet, though he's great as a character actor playing monsters. Haven't seen Boy Kills World, this or The Crow remake yet where he's the star. |

I saw Snow White on Thursday. I saw Locked yesterday. I am seeing Ash on Monday. I am seeing The Assessment on Wednesday. That is a lot, but I am also turning down a lot of movies. The Alto Knights, Magazine Dreams, Last Breath, etc. Maybe I'll see 'em one day, but probably not. Since I live so close to an AMC, I consider the $25/month to be just another utility payment, like my power bill or my water bill. It is a basic life necessity. Only a few movies nowadays really quicken my pulse, but I like going to the theater. |

![]() For March, I don't' remember recently seeing such a barrage of films being released every week lately. It's too bad as there is room to spread them over April, May probably. Too much competition in March though. That's cool you were able to see a few in a short time. With the theaters flooded with films, too many choices means many will be overlooked till home video, agreed. |

The AMC down the street from me is always dead. Even on opening night, I only see 25% capacity in the auditoriums, if that, for the vast majority of movies. |
