I’ve had couple hours to digest this news and I’m conflicted. Buffy was and still is probably my all time favorite show of all time. While I’m happy that SMG is back as Buffy but without Joss Whedon, it just seems wrong so I’m saddened that due to the whole situation after Charisma outed him as a toxic boss that Hollywood has basically turned his back on him.

I’m not disputing her claims but I’m also not agreeing with what she alleged. This whole cancel culture, especially for men, has kind of got out of control without any due process. Also, it seems suspicious that she outed him like a decade after the whole situation and yet she still returned for the Angel series finale and for the Buffy reunions. Also soon after the allegations came out, seems like most of the Buffyverse actors jumped on the bandwagon and turned their backs on JW, other than Alyson Hannibal, Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, Anthony Heald, and his Firefly cast.

Look, I know JW wasn’t the only person who made the show what it was but he was the overseer, the captain, the mastermind of this genius of a show so without him, I don’t see it happening. Without JW, there wouldn’t be Hush, The Gift, The Body, Once More With Feeling, Restless and all the masterful Buffy episodes he wrote and directed.

Even if JW came back, I get that some of the actors, maybe even SMG, would decline working on the same show with him, since I think SMG also kind of turned her back on him, but if there is a Buffy show w/o JW, to me, it’s basically fan fiction come to life. Kind of like the Star Wars sequel series without George Lucas. The only way I can see this show happening is instead of having the Zuckerman sisters becoming the writers and show runners, first get rid of them, and then bring back some of the Buffy/Angel writers and make one or a few of them the show runners, such as Marti Noxon, David Fury, Douglas Petrie, Jane Espenson, David Greenwalt, or Drew Goddard. JW entrusted these writers when he was working on Buffy and Angel so I think JW would trust them to continue with his vision of his series. But I don’t foresee that happening since they already hired those Zuckerman sisters and they plan on starting a writers room.

Just my humble opinion, maybe it’s best to leave well enough alone and let Buffy rest. She did save the world. A lot. 😉

I will give it a shot and if it is great then great, if not then I will just ignore it and be happy with the finale of Angel and the gang in the alley as the end.

All this talk and excitement about SMG returning (which is great) but no love for Alyson Hannigan (Willow) makes me sad.

Absolutely! I remember getting Chaos Bleeds on the PS2, getting to the menu screen and then hearing the theme again... memories

My favorite show of all-time. I have mixed feelings. Sarah (and hopefully more) coming back makes me super happy.
And seeing a new slayer could be amazing, especially with how times have changed.

But we know how often they screw these reboots or sequels up. This has me worried.

Right now, I hope this means we might get a proper remaster of the OG show. And if the new one actually turns out good to great, even better!!!

Why's that? Because they were produced by 20th Century Fox and it's now owned by Disney?

Anyway if we do have a Blu-ray release, it would most likely be the current """"remaster"""" and that would be a real shame.

Joss is all over them. Not worth it to scrub them clean.

I hope they don't try and put CG on David Borneaz's face, it's too distracting and doesn't work more often than not. Either (a) bring him back without trying to explain the appearance difference, (b) make Angel human now (like they did briefly in the comics but I think that got reversed right?), or (c) just don't have the character at all. I love Angel more than Buffy so that last one makes me sad, but I'd rather not have him return than have him be there with a terrible de-aging effect. Unless they really feel like they can nail it I guess...but when even Star Wars can't get it right (IMO at least, maybe others feel differently) I don't know if anyone can.

They can just say he lost his abilities and changed his name and did a 20 year stint leading a DEVGRU unit.

No way in hell would Boreanaz return. If a former lover-vampire shows up, it's definitely Spike (although I'd rather he didn't, or maybe in a dream/magic induced shenanigans where he's human and has aged or something)

Ah I see. Without getting into it here, I don't believe the handful of allegations against him would warrant a complete scrubbing or outright removal of archival bonus features. It's enough that he's not involved in the show going forward.

I know this is just wishful thinking at this point , but I have a feeling out of all the other actors besides SMG, Alyson Hannigan is the most likely to return. I’d love to see Anthony Stuart Head and Charisma Carpenter too - but they would be icing on the cake.

SMG, Alyson Hannigan, and Anthony Head are the only ones from the main cast whose characters could realistically return without feeling narratively contrived AND that have their performers still available.

Dushku seems to have retired from acting. Unfortunately, Brendon's troubles are well-documented and Trachtenberg seems to have some health issues. The rest of the characters are dead or their actors have aged out. Oz and Riley could come back but...nah.
