If they exit the 4K player market that leaves just Sony and Magnetar I believe. Ouch. If you want a UB820 or UB9000 at a fair price it might be a good idea to grab one this year just in case. |

Played my copy earlier today with no issues. Have you tried washing the disc? It sounds a bit weird, but I have had a couple of discs that refused to play until they were washed with a mild dish soap (wiping with a microfibre cloth alone did not help).

While trying to play the UHD of Congo last night my UB9000 did the dynamic range conversion, playing SDR instead of HDR and also down converting to 1080P. I haven’t changed any settings, I did a reset and put everything back to where it was, that didn’t help. I’m running firmware 1.82, which I just installed on 1/25, I had only played one other UHD since then which worked correctly. I also tried The Talk Of The Town last night which previously worked correctly, same down conversion issue. TV is Sony A90J. Anyone have any ideas?

TIL that the 820 and 9000 players have a DV mode 1 and 2 on supported TVs, and as far as I understand it, my TV does not support mode 1, so I don't even get the choice.
Are there any way to know which TV are supported? I'm specifically looking at the LG C4 down the line. |

It's relevant for when I decide what to buy, or what do you mean? EDIT: If I understand it correctly. I'm gonna need a G model for that kind of peak luminance. Last edited by Muyfa666; 02-19-2025 at 02:12 PM. |

Not having the menu displayed can mean one of two things: - the TV does not support TV-led DV via HDMI, so only Player-led DV is used anyways - the peak luminance is lower than 1200 nits, you use TV-led DV though Therefore, having the DV mode menu should not factor in as a buying decision. You will have it, if you need the work-around. |

The reason I'm looking into this is that some new 4K UHD discs seem to have issues with Player-led DV but not TV-led DV, and noone really seem to want to fix it on the manifacturer end. This is of course not my sole reason for changing TV, but I wanted to have it in mind. Guess I'll simply change some other component (eg. the player) instead for a cheaper solution. |
