It is region free and also tested playable in 2D on non-3D equipment.

With the extreme pop-outs in this one your display equipment makes a big difference, my plasma cannot handle it as well as my OLED.

I watched the opening and didn't see a massive difference from the Shout disc either but the early pop-out with the pole being poked into my face seemed to work a lot better. I'm going to give it a full watch later.

My latest three movies are the way. Left NY this morning. Maybe I'll see them arrive this week. Fingers crossed.

I'll be interested to hear opinions of this from those who get it.
I'm not sure if the differences will be consciously noticeable for the most part, maybe with the exception of some of the crosstalk (bad on the Shout release, minimal on the old bootleg edition) being hopefully less. It'll be more a case of watching it and just not ending up with a headache for the most part I expect.

For those who do get it, please take a look at the end credits without your 3d glasses on. On the Shout, they were badly misaligned and really made it clear how badly off their release was. Take a look and see if the Turbine ones are aligned, it should be an easy check of things.

My three arrived a few minutes ago. Eight days isn't too bad for delivery. Very well packaged. I love the way Turbine does things.

I received mine today and immediately threw it in.

Let me get down to the obvious, which is that DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 remix. I only call it a remix, because the Shout! release doesn't sound anything like this. The bass is DEEEEEEEEP!!! The surround activity is even more present here. I found a smile on my face, during many scenes, as a result. The only complaint I would have is that the music cues are on the verge of obnoxiously loud. Almost to the point of drowning out some dialogue.

I've viewed the Shout! release more times than I care to admit and this is like a fresh breath of Crystal Lake air. The colors are nicely saturated. The image is even a bit brighter. I was actually shocked how pleasing Turbine's efforts are. Most pop out gimmicks fare a lot better here. Any gimmicks that fail are those that are out of focus and usually in motion. For instance, the snake and the thrusted hot poker. All source related. My gripe here would be aimed towards the part 2 recap. It's a lot darker than the Shout! release, but it's a minor nitpick.

Some of my "WOW" moments include the kid's baseball bat, the vagabond presents the eyeball, finding Fox in the barn loft, and Kris' emerging attack from the closet.

If an established fan, this is a no-brainer. I feel it's a most welcome and surprising step up from the Shout! release.

I'm tempted to upgrade, just to experiment, but there's something about the nature of the Friday Part 3 footage--soft, bleary and pretty rough looking under the best circumstances--that makes me wonder how much an optimization effort could improve its basic impact. It'd be fun to do some direct comparisons. I leave my 3D at intended settings for viewing, but in tinkering, I've found even drastic changes to convergence seem to produce only subtle effect with the same master, and I wonder if the same would be true with tweaks to alignment, correction of warping...the sort Turbine applied to Friday Part 3.

Looking forward to checking it out.

Having looked really closely at some of the early shots I'd say Turbine have done a great job, the difference with the realignment/unwarping/rotating can appear visually quite subtle as the film plays, dependent on your comfort with poorly aligned footage, to the extent for many people I'm sure it will just "feel" better. Certainly for me the more extreme pop-outs did work a bit better than previous versions I've seen and overall I believe it's a big improvement in comfort levels.

Now just for full transparency I haven't ripped the Turbine release but I do have a still example here that demonstrates how badly misaligned the footage was, an example of the realigned/rotated image as well as an alternative approach to repairing this particular shot. I think (Apologies just done in anaglyph for simplicity of sharing).

If you look at the original footage without 3d glasses you can see how far out the vertical alignment is especially if you zoom in on the roofline - you can see it starts off with one eye (RED) way above it on the left whilst on the right of the building it's pretty near to being at the same level- so that's a considerable rotation, especially on a big screen!

Equally look at that fridge! I mean it's so way off that it's really uncomfortable to spend any time focussed on it.

Realigning and rotating the shot and adjusting the convergence makes it much more comfortable to view although in my opinion it still isn't an amazing 3D shot - in fairness I can't even imagine how complex this was to shoot - the camera move and interaxial requirements to go from this wide shot to the close up just seems crazily ambitious for the technology at the time and you really have to take your hat off to the team for even attempting such an outrageously challenging shot.

And as for the alternative, well that's a different story.

Thanks, a significant optimization. If nothing else, as you mention, it's a difference that's going to be felt in terms of comfort. With a few viewings, my brain seems to have sorted out the Shout disc, but that first viewing was...unpleasant, resulting in eye fatigue and some nausea. Often times with upgrades, I invest in talking myself out of them...but I'm actively considering this one.

I watched the Turbine release of Friday the 13 Part 3 3D with my PSVR1 today and the 3D effects were AWESOME! When I tried to watch it with my 3D Projectors I was very disappointed by the 3D effects.

Re: projectors, what players are you guys using?

From my experience, if you don't have a player that can manually set the 3D screen size for projection, the convergence will be very off. I know Sony players have the setting and Panasonics don't (not sure about other brands). It makes a massive difference with silver age 3D like this in particular.

I can set up my screen size both on the projector and the PlayStation 3 (that I'm using for BR).

Sony x800. I was able to set the projection screen size and I saw a very improved 3D effect. I still give the edge to my PSVR1 over the projector.

I ripped the disc and watched like 15 minutes in VR. It seem identical to SF until the open scene at the Store. I saw like a thread on the film on the left lower corner. It did hurt my eyes a bit. I felt like SF did a better job on F13 P3.

I have a Darbee 5000S Video enhancer that upscales the image.
