They did it. Didn't think they would, but the mouse did it. So a good-looking steel and lots of hope for other favorites to follow.

When I logged on this morning and saw the thread title on the forum, I immediately figured here we go again for the millionth time with someone asking about or wanting this title on 4K instead of discussing in the wishlist section. But then I noticed reanimator posted it and he doesn't post nonsense like that. So my hope skyrocketed as I clicked the thread title.

cool steelbook art. The romance part of this movie annoys me, and also Jason Priestly in his 90210 prime....but everything else is pretty awesome, especially Kilmer. And the Billy Bob scene is great.

Just curious, do you have a link to this list? Can't seem to find it using Google.

This is all that was said about it.

Source is the link in the first post of this thread.

Tombstone was at the very top of that A-list.

The BD was decent but I recall the opening 5-10 mins being plagued with edge enhancement. I hope that’s all gone.

I said it about Pretty Woman but it seems like after 20th Century’s R rated films did well for Disney; they are re-embracing their own R rated classics. Con Air, Pretty Woman, and now Tombstone which means more Touchstone and Hollywood classics may finally come directly from Disney/Sony instead of reprints from Disney/Mill Creek.

Uhm.....but we haven't got UHDs of Con Air or Pretty Woman. That the studio has been remastering this stuff is its own thing, every studio has been beavering away trying to update their catalogue for 4K. I don't regard it as a change of heart re: disc releases specifically.

Again, Russell is not a director, yes the recommendation came from Stallone who had worked successfully with Cosmatos on Rambo 2 and Cobra. And Cosmatos was a journey man director that rescued Rambo 2, Tombstone and Shadow Conspiracy, all three of those films were troubled productions that needed to be completed by certain dates.

But people are making this as Russell conceived this film when it wasn't true, Russell signed a two-picture deal with Carolco right about when Andy Vajna was leaving Carolco, Vajna took this project with him as part of leaving Carolco to his new established studio at Disney; Cinergi. Tombstone script was really good that Cinergi green lit it with the screenwriter attached and agreed to direct; the script was so good it attracted a lot of known talent and at the same time Warner Bros. had Lawrence Kasdan's / Kevin Costner big budget Wyatt Earp project green lit. That caused Tombstone to be rushed and shot/edited and completed by 1993 and because Kasdan and Costner did not want to rush; their project was released in 1994. Russell likes to take credit for Tombstone (and not for his 1992's Unlawful Entry and Captain Ron bombs the year before). But in reality, the unsung heroes were Andy Vajna (producer of Rambo 2) and Cosmatos (director of Rambo 2) who brought the project on time and under budget, and the onset shenanigans like Cosmatos drinking wine on the set; that was completely normal for an Italian director even Coppola does it to this day. And Cosmatos not being nice to the lesser actors; you must not heard the horror stories from James Cameron's sets!

Every studio that has been putting out 4K versions of their films on digital have done a great job of releasing those titles to disc; let it be through themselves or through a boutique label.

That is every studio except Disney.

Every time I start this movie up, I think "why did I like this?"
The first 30 minutes are like a schlocky TV movie.

But then, things start to get interesting. By the third act, I'm all in and totally in love with this movie.

It becomes one of my favorite westerns. It's a perfect "popcorn Western" movie. But those first 20 minutes or so really suck.

It seems everyone is so, so happy today. Congrats to all. Bill Hunt absolutely should be recognized not only for this scoop but also for possibly helping to influence the situation with Buena Vista Home Video. Let's all hope more are coming. Just based on leaks and rumors it would certainly seem like that is the case.

Here we can clearly see Kurt Russell directing Tombstone (1993);

Very similar to one of them "Flat-earthers" theories!

It shouldn't be that hard to figure out what would be on this list. Have to think its a mix of Disney and Fox most wanted but currently missing on the 4K format (similar in vein to Tombstone albeit prior to today) and some classics like Planet of the Apes, Sound of Music (Disney already said the latter is coming later this year), etc.

I bet anyone who's into movies and home theater could sit down and come up with 80%+ of the list if they thought about it.
