Sorry - Ratner doesn't get a free pass on a poorly written movie because parts of it were "from the comic book". Still gets a thumbs down from me.

Also, just because it was "from the comic book" doesn't mean he did it justice.

Example: Sentinals - "Ooh, look, a big robot head!" Why bother - the fans got almost nothing, and anyone who wasn't a fan had no idea what that big robot head was.

Just because you didn't like (I myself as well) doesn't someone out there somewhere liked the Brett Ratner version.

Wait ..
[Show spoiler]I don't remember Jean Grey killing Scott (in fact she sacrificed herself to avoid doing so)...
I don't remember Phoenix having a "black effect that disintegrate people".
I don't remember Magneto siding with the Dark Phoenix against the Xmen...

.. etc.
Well .. it must be Alzheimer's striking early I guess.

Edit: Spoiler tags ... for a 3 year old movie ?

Ratner wasn't just untrue to the X-men comic books, he was also untrue to the universe as set by Bryan Singer in the initial two movies.
The Last Stand was a deeply flawed film from start to finish. I try to ignore that it existed at all.

He didn't just ignore who the X-men are, he ignored what they stand for.

No he really didn't. The film is quite in keeping with the previous two films.

Agreed. Given that Ratner's version of the XMen really wasn't that great, what are we all looking for.

As for the OP providing this little interesting article I think that Ratner was right and wrong at the same time. Sure Director's works are always in the hot spot since there are those who like it VS. those who didn't. He was wrong in making a reference to the Fanboys. But his message is misinterpreted by the Fanboys as well.

Bottom line no matter who directs a project there is a negative side marching toward it. What are looking for a re-boot of the 3rd X-Men movie. :shrug

I think Steven Speilberg is one of the great directors in the movie industry, any movie with his name attached = the big greens definitely. But even Speilberg screwed up, and the biggest example is one of his own masterpieces Indiana Jones. the latest one was just ridiculous. You could also blame Lucas for that very same film since it was his idea to begin with.

No, it's really not. I find it astonishing that anyone could come to that conclusion. It's a remarkably stupid film.

I don't say make another Superman 4 but you cannot turn Superman into TDK either.
I understood it to mean that they want to take Superman in a darker direction, too, which would be a huge mistake. What they really need is a fresh take on the character, a Superman Begins, in the hands of a good filmmaker. They need a director who’s not an obvious choice for a comic book action film, just like Nolan when he was brought in to reboot Batman.

One of the core aspects of the X-men comics and films is a put upon minority who come to accept and value themselves for who they are. Magneto dismissing Mystique, Rogue taking the cure, and the X-men using the cure as a weapon against Magneto all go against this core concept.

In his commentary for the alternate Rogue seen (the better choice) he said he decided that Rogue should take the cure so that she and Bobby could have a sex life (which we imagine is off screen? WTF??)

Ratner (and sure, the writers) didn't get it.

Then you clearly haven't read the comics. Cause all of those kinds of things have happened.

Just with different characters and different takes.
