First, I'll make an exclusion for sub-4K content that's digital all the way, films that are shot on film but finished below 4K (usually a 2K DI), and films that have no surviving elements. Yeah, you gotta upscale those, even if it winds up sucking.

That aside, there's only one person in this entire world that I know believes upscaling is the key to a solid 4K release, and that guy is such a Smurf-obsessed wingnut that literally no one on earth even trusts him with a transfer anymore. When his first disc after his AI trifecta dropped, we actually celebrated that the disc didn't suck. That's how far he lowered the bar.

i feel as if most people missed the point… but i do understand a lot of AI upscales suck (ESPECIALLY James Cameron’s) again, when there’s a will there’s a way. we don’t know what kind of technology anything of these companies have to upscale anything at all. we don’t have the slightest idea at the end of the day all these companies go through to provide the wonderful films they have

anyways, hopefully shout can give their own light on the 4k releases of Sleepaway Camp 2&3 sometime and we can all quit assuming lol

but does anyone know if Monkey Shines is a good movie? is it worth picking up the 4k when it releases?

This one cracks me up. The artist for the Escape From New York Steelbook from Shout had contractual limitations that literally removes every single known thing about the movie. Like they couldn't even make it look like New York for a movie ltierally called Escape from New York

I'm genuinely curious why something like the Statue of Liberty couldn't be shown. Its likeness would certainly be public domain.

No blu-ray combo on Lord Of Illusions is surprising, especially with multiple cuts. Probably because Sandpiper has it in print? Spine doesn't indicate two discs either, and the differences in the cuts seem elaborate for seamless branching.

If so, this is disappointing for the rumored Sleepaway Camp sequels...

Mmm. Should we be concerned that Lord of Illusions won't have both cuts? It doesn't state 2 discs on the spine. I mean, if it only has the Director's Cut, I won't mind at all, but obviously we haven't always seen that from SF.

They've used seamless branching on a few discs. We'll see.

Most of all, I'm curious if Alfredo Garcia finally has the OG subtitles on the film, for at least the first time since pre-TT. I don't have a DVD, LD, or legit VHS (just an off-air recording), and that's been the only thing really bugging me about releases of this film.

The sad thing is that, even though technology will never - repeat, NEVER - reach the point where upscaling something from crapola magically makes it a beautiful native 4K image, there will eventually be more and more people who BELIEVE that you can magically upscale something that bad to beautiful 4K. There will be more of them in the Big Six and there will be more of them buying the discs, likely the same fools who currently confuse the latest Marvel film for the likes of Kane or Rashomon. And if you think studio discs are shaky now, watch how hard they dip when the "AI upscaling is king" mindset truly takes hold.

As joked earlier, there's already one notable person, JC (who, by now, likely has himself confused with another JC), who truly believes this nonsense, and with the old guard either dying or retiring, and the noobs comprising mostly of recent college grads who truly know nothing, grads who likely couldn't find a negative if they typed "1-2=" into a calculator, this woefully faulty logic - as well as other faculty logic of this magnitude - will quickly take over.

nobody said AI upscaling is king.. if you’d actually read what i’m saying instead of spouting the same nonsense it wouldn’t be hard to understand that anything can be done. literally anything, there’s a guy MOD archive who does amazing AI upscaling. however, i don’t believe it’d fully be true 4k nor do i believe it’s superior. again, James Cameron AI 4ks are garbage. but non of us know what the future holds or what they’re fully able to do rn. none of us are back there working

what company do you work for again? oh that’s right, you don’t. nobody knows what they can or can’t do, that is my point. they could easily do it, would it look true or great, probably not. again, look at James Cameron’s 4ks GARBAGE. and i’m not full of myself so i can admit i don’t know any of the logistics and i won’t pretend to. but acting as if you know everything and are high & mighty don’t make you correct by any means

i stated earlier i’d love both.. i’d also love the series on blu ray from literally anybody. but i heard a bunch of legal mess will probably keep that from happening.. not sure if it affects the movies or not, hopefully not
