its not that they may be better, but comedies now adays arnt ur taste, comedies have evolved, they have changed alot since then
now adays comedies arnt really about the jokes or story line, its about how stupid and dumb things are in them, and about pushing the limits
thats what makes younger ppl laugh today and thats what most comedies are made for, the younger audience
im in my twentys and i think the most comedies made today are crap, i perfer alot of older ones myself

Classic comedies are better because they try to make the movie funny by telling jokes and not making pop culture references which are only funny at the time.

It's because older comedies had people that could act, with comic timing. The scripts were funnier and didn't rely on shock value.

I don't think its a matter of being better. It has a lot to do with ourpoint of view.

The OP mentions some classic 80's comedies as refrences. That is probably where he started to enjoy these films. Ground Zero if you will. Then one continues to watch films and eventually, you notice that most films just keep re-hashing the old stuff so obviously its not original or as good anymore to the person watching. The younger generation sees the new films as fresh and hip and maybe they watch the older stuff with that frame of refrence and think it is outdated simply because they saw the newer stuff first. It's all a matter of perspective.

I'm sure many people older than myself (or maybe the OP) will say those 80's comedies don't hold a candle to films like Some Like It Hot, or Modern Times perhaps.

This is a pretty spot on assessment. I think perspective is everything when it comes to film, especially in the comedic genre. It also has to do with how long you've lived with that movie also. Again, perspective and how they age. I am in the boat of thinking that great comedies have been made in every decade that will stand the test of time, including the past 10 years.

Maybe your right but still do you really see American Pie really holding up over time? Do you really think that Judd Apatow will write Ghostbusters 3 to be anywhere near as good as Harold Ramis did with 1 and 2? Is Eddie Murphy going to be remembered for Dr Dolittle or Beverly Hills Cop? I think on one hand your right in the fact it was movies I grew up with, however I do appreciate the older stuff that did it first as well. Part of my full collection of movies is stuff from before I was born. The ones I mentioned in the original posts were just the first ones to come to mind. Probably because, like you said, they were the ones I grew up with.
