Why make us pay to upgrade a movie to high def but not include nearly an hour of footage for each movie that we already have on out inferior sdvd discs??

Do it right the first time. I could understand the double dip back on the sdvd versions but now that we all own those versions this double dip woudl be EXTREMELY uncessary.
I've read somewhere that Peter Jackson decides when the EE cuts will be released and that the T cuts is Warner. Warner wants to release them as soon as possible (hopefully) and PT obviously has bigger plans for the EE cuts when the The Hobbit shoots off. Can anybody else verify this? I can't verify this with a source.
I don't mind double-dipping, for me it's a new start as I only remember so much of the movies, plus I want them as soon as possible.

At comic-con Peter Jackson said the EE's would come out about a year after the theatricals.

Okay, I am preparing myself for all the name calling and lectures I am about receive. How was seemless branching done on the DVD's? I have both the theatrical and EE editions. So where is the seemless branching? They had separate releases for both. They weren't on the same discs.

It's on the discs you don't own....

http://www.amazon.com/Rings-Trilogy-...526139&sr=1-11

There were the theatrical DVDs, the EE DVDs and then this.

Quote:
Both the theatrical and extended versions of all three films--The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King--are on three double-sided discs. The versions use seamless branching, meaning that the scenes that are common to both versions are stored on the disc only once. If you choose to watch the extended version, the disc "branches" out to the added or extended scenes. What does this mean to the viewer? Not much. The viewing experience is the same because the branching is imperceptible. But because both versions of the film don't have to be stored on the disc in their entirety (which would be six or seven hours total for each film), both versions together fit on two sides of one disc. The downside is that whichever version you watch, you have to flip over the disc halfway through; the film breaks at the same spot it did on the Extended Edition. Also lost are the meager features included on the theatrical edition, plus the four commentary tracks, two discs of bonus features, and DTS 6.1 ES sound from the four-disc Extended Editions.

You're delusional if you think they're going to release the theatricals and the extendeds within that short a period of time from one another.

Like I said, Peter Jackson himself said there would be about a year between the two, so we're probably looking at Q2 2011 for the extended editions now (at the earliest).

While the delay is unfortunate, I'd rather them have a little extra time to work on it than rush it to shelves. Now I have something to look forward to during the slowest part of the theatrical release season.

Money reasons? Who confirmed that?

Thanks for the clear-up. I would rather see the EEs on their own BDs.

I bet the EEs will still hit by the end of 2010 for a holiday release......they would be crazy to sell it at any other time.

I enjoyed watching all of the supplementary material on the TE's and EE's and wouldn't mind seeing it again with the higher resolution of blu-ray.

And yet, the theatricals were supposed to come out during the holidays but instead have been pushed to March.
