Australia Raging Bull 4K UHD (1980) (Imprint / Via Vision)

To be released on June 25th.

I hope that Imprint are again hiring Fidelity in Motion for the encode. If so, I hope David is able to include the Criterion LaserDisc mix that’s vastly superior to any other mix.

More details on the film’s audio here: https://blah-ray.blogspot.com/search...%281980%29?m=0

Update: Fidelity in Motion confirmed their involvement in this release via a X/Twitter retweet.

Got the Criterion already, but it does look like a lovely package. Might be tempted to double-dip if it's a superior encode.

75 USD before any kind of tax and/or shipping is a non-starter for me.

That's a lovely looking set. Will be interesting to see/hear comparisons between the Criterion HDR and this one's Dolby Vision.

Yeah, I still don't own this, & I've been thinking of changing that. A beautiful set, superior in special features & packaging design when compared to the Criterion version. We'll wait & see how a/v quality turns out.

Superior in what way? It doesn’t even have commentary with Scorsese

It certainly isn't superior in special features. The Criterion has all of the same older features as this and two exclusive video essays (one by Geoffrey O’Brien (25:23) and one by Sheila O’Malley (17:51).)

Possible that the book has more than the two pieces in the Criterion, but only listing one essay by one critic leads me to believe that the booklet probably will be filled with an excessive amount of pictures/screencaps.

Yeah, I might have been a bit hasty on that pronouncement.

Tempted, but I'll wait to see how this compares to the Criterion 4K. I've bought this film so many times. I still have the VHS and laserdisc - and the lovely Coattail book.

To be fair to you, they are needlessly putting the special features on its own Blu-ray. Padding the release so it looks like more.

I just really, really can’t imagine anything from Via Vision having a superior encode to just about anything else. Since I own the Criterion 4K and the 30th Anniversary Blu-ray, I’m covered top-to-bottom on extras (except for whatever “Jake’s Jokes” is on this Imprint set), so as aesthetically pleasing as this set is, I gotta pass. Especially at that price point. NEW YORK, NEW YORK, on the other hand…

They've worked with FiM.

I’ll chime in to mention that they even commissioned Fidelity to do a full-on restoration and grade in addition to encoding for A Bridge Too Far. The Neverending Story is encoded by them but I don’t know about the master in this particular case.

Both Imprint and Umbrella continue using their local bad authoring house for BD-only titles though.

Fair enough and could be a game-changer, but did they announce the FiM involvement on A BRIDGE TOO FAR and/or THE NEVERENDING STORY upfront? Or were they cases of “found out after release”?

Fidelity retweeted Imprint’s announcements of the two titles shortly afterwards. I went back to the Neverending Story thread and unlike Umbrella, Imprint didn’t mention FiM as part of their release breakdown.
