MAJOR spoilers below…

[Show spoiler]If you leave when the credits start to roll, you’ll assume she died, but she shows up in a sequence at the end set in 1992 along with another major character showing that they have lived long lives since as vampires…

saw this last night at Digital IMAX, great film, a def purchase.
Hope its switching formats but would be happy with 2.76 to 1.78 switch for home viewing, but really hope it does switch to get best of the IMAX filmed scenes

Oh my, the visuals in this film are insane but I would love the constant 2.76 AR on UHD.

I think the theatrical poster for this looks pretty badass. I’m really disappointed the 4K is going for something so generic instead.

Seeing the movie soon!

Saw this in Dolby today. Loved it. The setpiece song is one of the best uses of Atmos I've heard in a long time. I think I might need to drive 5 hours to see this on 15/70.

The trailers for this looked interesting, but did not really blow me away.

I haven't seen it yet and I am not sure if I will be able to catch it in IMAX, but I pre-ordered the steelbook from Gruv due to all the praise I am hearing about it. Perhaps it's another case of a film being better than the marketing suggests.

Anyways, I hope I am not disappointed.

Yep, I’m a MBJ and fan of the director. I’m not too much into vampire movies tbh, but it seems like it has enough other things going on in it that I will like. I hear it has quite a bit of action in it as well.

I feel it will be good, but as many have said in the ”movies” thread, they didn’t feel like it lived up to all the hype (even though they did think it was good though).

So we could get a mix of 2.76 and 1.43 here, or 2.76 and 1.78 (which would look best in my opinion) similar to Nolan’s movies on disk.

Hopefully we get the switching ratios, I saw this yesterday (with Coogler showing up to introduce it) and the IMAX sequences are really worth it, even though the vast majority of the film is 2.76.

The single best shot in the whole movie, an extended dance sequence, is full IMAX and even opens up from 2.76 to the taller ratio at the beginning of the shot.
As someone who hasn't seem BvS in 4K, can I ask how this was achieved? Did the screen change from an ultra-wide image with "black bars" on the top and bottom of the screen, to a 1.43 image with "black bars" on the left and right of the screen?

Can't imagine how else it would work but I'm fascinated by this because I was lamenting the fact that we'd lose so much of this beautiful footage on home video.

I drove 9 hours round-trip from Detroit to Indianapolis this past weekend to see the film in IMAX 70mm and it was well worth it.

Edit: Wow, just looked up the review, I didn't even know that release happened but it's pretty much exactly how I described it. How cool! I really hope Sinners gets that treatment for home video releases.

The only reason I haven't preordered the Steelbook yet is because I wanted to see what will be used for the standard UHD cover, but I might end up getting the Steelbook since it'll have both formats included.

I'm glad people are saying this is good. I'm a big fan of MBJ ever since Creed and thought he was the standout performance in Black Panther. I definitely want to see this one.

Yep it’s exactly how you described it. Black bars on both the top and bottom or left and right on a 16x9 screen depending on whether it’s IMAX footage or not. I prefer a 16x9 image for the IMAX sequences but I didn’t hate the switching in BvS. It would probably be more distracting in a movie where it’s constantly going back and forth. For Sinners either could work probably. In an ideal world all IMAX releases would get both a constant aspect ratio version and an IMAX version so people can pick which they prefer.

I reject steelbooks altogether nowadays. Personally, I think they’re pointless and a waste of money. Studios that release steelbook exclusives lose a sale from me, even if I want it. I’m seeing Sinners tomorrow. If I like it and want to own it, I’ll go with the standard release. I’m still disappointed by the choice of artwork though.

I really want the aspect ratio changes in the 4K Blu ray, and I also much prefer 16:9 for the IMAX-scenes. I didn't hate the 1:43 in Batman v Superman, but didn't like it either.

If this is a Dune-situation I will still buy it, but I think Coogler would want the aspect ratio changes to the home release too.

Did Amazon just raise the price of the steelbook? Coulda sworn it was $39.99 not that long ago.

Also there are IMAX scenes that slowly expand and fill the screen. 1.78:1 works better there. Working on confirms if we are getting the IMAX aspect ratio switching scenes.

IMAX scenes should definitely be 16:9 on home video versions. Switching from scope to 1.43:1 doesn't work well at home, and almost makes those scenes feel smaller rather than bigger.
