The check amount was one thing that I had to "huh" over. His attorney would have told him the amount to see if he wanted to accept it or, drag it out....

it wasn't a settlement - it was just a goodwill gift from them, since they weren't going to settle with him. He could still have sued but he likely would have lost. They were only in depositions discovery stage.
