I often find Amazon has the wrong info, too. A lot of items that definitely have more than one disc are described as being just one disc.

The first episode I tried to watch froze halfway through on my Panasonic UB820. I inspected the disc, and it looked fine. No scratches, fingerprints, or smudges. I then tried the disc on a *second* Panasonic UB820 (my backup). Same thing. However, when I tried the same disc in my PS5, that episode played fine all the way through.

Edit: It's also annoying that the digitial copy is expired. I forgot to redeem it.
It's always better to use a completely different transport for a secondary player. I learned that with Sony's extended edition of Total Recall, where no transport that used the media tech decoder could handle the branching properly, including Sony's PS3.

The Panny is supposed to be the most reliable UHD player on the market, according to a few former colleagues, but Panny used to have the worst longevity in the industry. I don't know if that's changed, but I had loads of problems with our 820. I thought it had something to do with splitting the audio to a legacy AVR that the manufacturer stopped supporting before HDR was even available. That is until we recently got a Sony with dual HDMI outs too and so far, no glitching at the layer changes has occurred. Knock on wood. The PS5 has seemed more reliable too. But it doesn't feature dual HDMI outs, so it has to go to the TV first and then to the AVR via eARC, downsampled to lossy DD, which I don't mind with older mono mixes, like Seven Samurai, considering my hearing. I don't think the Panny handles scratches as well either. Maybe it's bad software, or maybe the optical pickup wasn't aligned properly, or there's something wrong with the HDMI board, or maybe Sony (the manufacturer of our TV) just doesn't play well with Panny. I like a lot of things about the 820, but it's clearly not built as well as the Sony 800 despite the higher price tag. Still, next time I'm in a market, I might give it another go, just to see if the first was a lemon, which I hear Sony has their share of lemons too.

To those who say it looks amazing: you're mostly watching a digitally upscaled image. GOT was shot on Arri Alexa cameras in 2.8K ProRes 4444 files. Plates for VFX work were shot with Red Dragon cameras at 6K - but the FX were rendered for 1080p: they might've re-rendered some of the FX shots for UHD, but everything that is just live-action actors and sets is an upscale. I am not saying this to spoil your fun: Arri did maintain for a long time that files from their cameras could withstand upscaling well (though they used to say this when they were not making 4K cameras themselves). So, sometimes upscaling does work (and most of the movies made since 2010 that are getting a UHD remaster are going to be upscales).

Just a heads up, it took me three separate occasions to get a replacement set from WHV. The first time I was told they would send me a replacement "if they had any". No word. Emailed them back 8 months later and they requested the same info as originally (receipt, photos, etc.). Didn't get a response after sending the info. Finally, another 4 months after that, someone said they'd send a replacement within 48-72 hours. I just received it. Definitely follow up, if nothing else, for a spare set to resell or at least get your money back.

Dang, that’s quite a long time! I guess it’s great they finally replaced your set.

I also got a spare set as well. A bit of a surprise as I only requested about 7 discs. I guess it's just easier for them.

It DID take forever with not a lot of communication from WB. It just showed up randomly from California months after my initial email request.

The replacement set will likely be just as problematic as the original set.

Very true. And I don't really have the time or patience to open this new one and check every disc against the old set. Really annoyed and wishing I had sprang for the steelbook set originally.

Order the UK set from Amazon. Swap out the discs and return the UK set with the US discs in it to get your money back. Problem solved.

I just swapped the good for the bad as best as I could. It was tedious as hell going through 'em all. Still not perfect and I still have a few playback issues. The bonus disc was probably the worst in terms of scratches. The new set came with a much better copy.

Agree with kburns10 that I should have went for the steelbook. Maybe we will get some sort of re-issue at some point or a large box set with HotD.

I don't think it's a disc scratch issue. I think it's a disc manufacturing issue in the Mexico plant. So, unless the discs inside the steelbook were not manufactured in the Mexico plant, I don't think the steelbook is any better.

I just hate the stacked discs and the steelbook avoided that. But yeah I would l love to see what goes on down at the Mexico plant. We already know they don't wear gloves.

That's strange. The bonus set was the only one where each disc had a separate spindle instead of being stacked. Were your discs super scratched upon opening it?

It looked like it was used for a game of air hockey.

This was a few years back so my memory is a bit foggy. I just remember that one really stood out. I just had a lot of playback issues which was super annoying. Some discs looked fine but still skipped which backs up what ckenisell pointed out that this was a straight up manufacturing issue.

It would be interesting to see how many had issues with their steelbook sets. I just recall a ton of people chiming in on the main thread that they had lots of issues.

I would be curious as well. I assumed the steelbooks not stacking discs meant you were in the clear, but the point about them being manufactured in the same factory is a good one. Won't matter if quality control is terrible across the board.

I had problems with a few disks not playing, asked about replacing them and after months they sent a whole new box to me. I had kept it sealed since then not wanting to go through everything again, thinking I might sell it instead, but then I worry about people complaining about disks not working. With the weather I thought it would be fun to rewatch this again and disk 1 of the old set, which worked perfectly the first time pixelated and froze in the first 30sec of the first episode. sigh. Finally opened the replacement set and popped the disk in and so far that episode played fine, we'll see how the rest go. So now I'm having to keep both sets just in case, and if too many of them crap out on me, I'm just tossing them all and going back to my BD, I'll just have to miss having the last season on disk because I'm NOT spending any more money on this! This set alone is why I'll probably never buy any TV shows on 4k again. Just too many disks to go through and too many chances of them messing things up. As much as I would LOVE LOVE to get all of Twin Peaks on 4k, I'm just too nervous about it.

This offer has expired.

Warner's greed strikes again.
Thanks for your generosity and for the opportunity anyway.

I purchased this set years ago and still have yet to watch it… I’m afraid most the discs won’t work, after all I’ve been reading, and clearly my return window is up. I may eventually get around to watching it
