I think they may have gotten the Japanese import. Either that, or they're watching it on HD DVD.

Better yet, they may have been a little impatient, and went ahead and bought the recently released double disc special edition on DVD.

No way would I buy anything from Paramount. I rented the DVD from Blockbuster Online. Whew, glad I did since this transfer looks so altered and wrong. Yes the original DVD was grainy, but it looked natural.

Face/Off is out in Japan region A and comes out region free in the UK on October 1st

I'm was thinking of getting Troy, Now after reading this thread I think it's a must.

Can anyone tell me if it will play on a UK PS3, I know WB normally are region free. Just wanted to check.

This version is far superior to the original cut, gone are the wailing woman's voices and the added 30 min. of footage is a huge plus.

i've been tempted to buy this movie, but i never saw it in theaters.

i tend to love these epics, (Braveheart, Gladiator, LotR, Kingdom of Heaven), but am unsure about this one. I saw it at best buy and was curious. thoughts on this movie?

also - any thoughts on the quality of kingdom? i have it on DVD and was wondering if a re-purchase would be worth it?

Rent it. I don't think it's in the same league as the titles you mentioned.

Buy Kingdom of Heaven. It is superb!

I recommend it for a purchase. It is an excellent movie with an epic feel to it just like the movies you mentioned. Definitely thumbs up.

I have said it numerous times. I HATED this movie in the theaters and even threatened the members here that i'd make them pay me $0.50 each if I hated this version..........I loved it. I still have a beef with how short it made the trojan war feel, but past that it was cool. the pcm track sounds great, but there are some digital artifacts in dark scenes, most noticeable for me was the last night scene. but I loved it. lots of boobies too.

I'm afraid this assessment is way. I just watched it today and was very disappointed. This is another Warner smoothie and has nowhere near the detail of most A+ titles. I couldn't believe how soft most of the closeups were. The only scene that actually had some pop was a closeup of Hector on his funeral pyre. Other than that, I didn't see any scenes that had what I consider HD quality. Overall the film was fine and colors may have been improved but the VC1 bitrate was in the teens every time I checked.

It should come as a no surprise that a 3 hour movie simply requires too much space for HD DVD to give it a good bitrate and as a result, Warner short changes the BR camp yet again. If I had known just how mediocre this transfer was, I would have rented it. At least for me, this will be the absolute last Warner purchase I made until they start maxing out their BR transfers.

I watched this on a 1080P projector at 150" but I realize people with 40" screens and/or 768 native resolution might not be able to see the difference. When you have a larger screen and one that shows full 1080 lines of resolution, this title simply lags behind most of the Sony & Disney transfers from this year.

Troy was a descent transfer.. picture was 7 out of 10. I thought they should have made it in dts or true hd though
