New 4K Blu-ray players

I wonder why hasn’t Amazon or Walmart come out with their own 4K blu ray player yet I mean they both came out with their own streaming devices? It just seems odd that both of them haven’t came out yet with one of them?

Niche market, expensive to make and parts that aren't easily sourced. Streaming boxes can be made by anyone for cheap and without moving parts.

Keep in mind, several manufacturers have pulled out of the physical market. There isn't really any money to be made outside of 1-2 companies making them. Amazon wants you subscribed to Prime and watching digital content.

I could potentially see Walmart making an ONN 4K player one day but DVD is still their biggest business.

I'm simply interested if DVD is still the dog's 'cough', then why are people buying 4K OLED TVs? I hope it is not because they believe that upscaled is the real deal

It's just a number to them. Most people have zero idea what 4K means or if the content they are watching is 4K.

I take my dad as a perfect example. He just bought a new Samsung OLED. He watches movies off a Fire Stick and/or his DVD player...

It's hard to even find a 1080p TV nowadays unless it's a small one. 4K is kind of the default whether you are watching in native 4K or not.

Upscaling is just a polite term for fakery. Possibly someone might introduce your dad to Blu-ray. Have a good day now

I brought this up on new 4K blu ray players because the older ones seem to have certain issues with some 4K titles. It would be nice to see newer models from other companies like Amazon or Walmart. Now that Sony and Panasonic are the only ones making them. However I don't expect to see new models or new 4K blu ray players from them because the market isn't good right now.

At least consumers have come a long way now to know what those black bars are there for now. Even if some of them have no idea that a 4K TV needs native 4K content or a good 1080p upscaling 4k player to show it's true beauty. People are fine with low quality streaming and DVD and hey if it saves them money can't blame them. You can find lots of DVD's on facebook marketplace and thrift stores pretty cheap.

If Sony and Panasonic stop making 4K players and they have no competition than I could see that happening. Walmart sells a ton of DVD's still.

That does worry me, but as far as Sony goes, I don't understand why they would do that considering how invested they are in releasing 4k discs.

Sony and Panny still selling cheap DVD players. Prettty sure they will continue selling cheap players as long as studios keep releasing films on any physical format. Now it's entirely possible they can stop selling their higher end players. Sony already stopped production on their ES line and it looks like the M2 will not continue. So far only the X700 appears to be their last 4K player standing.

There is zero evidence to suggest that is going to happen. They aren't losing money selling the players they have on the market. Both companies recouped their R&D costs a long time ago.

Nowhere does it say that the "M2 will not continue." They are continuing to produce it.

The end has been predicted as coming soon for years but still hasn’t come true. I do think there’s enough evidence to suggest new players by Sony and Panasonic won’t be manufactured in another 10 years though, besides maybe the PS6 if it has a disc drive option, and there’s plenty comments online from people now that think it won’t.
