Default Onkyo 605? How to change listening modes?

I was watching a movie last night. I use my PS3 for my bluray player. When playing a game or watching a movie,I have to set my receiver on game/tv. When trying to change the listening modes on the receiver,it only went from game direct to game multichannel? What do I need to do to change listening modes when watching a movie?

Either use the menu on the disc (usually under "languages") to select Dolby Digital, True HD, DTS HD, etc.

Or, hit "triangle" on your PS3 controller or remote and scroll through the different audio options.

If you are talking about things like Neo 6, THX, etc. - then you should probably post this in the receiver section - for questions about your specific receiver.

on your onkyo listening modes (there is a button on the receiver and on the receiver remote for listening modes) set it to multichannel. i have a ps3 and an onkyo receiver, "multichannel" is the listening mode you want. remember, you have the "fat" ps3 and it can't bitstream HD audio so, it will send it out as LPCM and it will decode all HD codecs onboard. make sure your ps3 audio is set for HDMI and LPCM that way the LPCM your receiver gets in the "multichannel" listening mode is true HD decoded audio. you will not be able to see the Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD-MA lights on your receiver light up from the "fat" ps3. if you buy the new slim ps3 then you can get that. you can also get the codec lights if you use a standalone blu player that can bitstream the HD codecs over HDMI.

best of luck, keep us posted.

I also have the Onkyo 605.

Are you using an older model PS3 or the new slim model?

The "listening modes" you are referring to are only available when the audio source is bitstream... not PCM like the PS3 "fat".

Change your PS3 to bitstream audio and those listening modes become available, but then you lose lossless audio capabilities... unless you have the slim model which can bitstream lossless.

if you are expecting to get lossless HD audio from your fatty ps3 then you must set it to LPCM, the fatty cannot bitstream HD audio via HDMI. the fatty ps3 must decode it onboard, then via HDMI send it out as LPCM. with your receiver set to (listening modes) multichannel or direct or pure you will then get the true lossless LPCM from your fatty ps3. if you set your fatty ps3 to bitstream, you will not be sending it lossless audio, instead you will only be sending it the lossy cores. i have mine set up for multichannel. you don't have the ps3 slim so there is no need to talk about that.
