Default Hannibal vs. Silence of The Lambs

Just curious which movie you think is better, Hannibal or Silence of The Lambs. I prefer Hannibal as I prefer Julianne Moore's Clarice Starling over Jodies Foster's. And I thought Ridley Scott did a fine job on directing Hannibal. Plus the dinner table scene is just classic. Please post your reasons why you prefer which version. I would like to see Hannibal get its own blu-ray release.

"Silence of the Lambs" is a far superior film. Joedi Foster is better in the role, although that's iffy to say since the Clarice in "Lambs" is very different than the Clarice in "Hannibal." Foster was really able to dig into the character and play a naieve and terrified woman. It's not until the climax of the film that Clarice sprouts her wings, so to speak.

"Lambs" is also more terrifying. The story in general, that is. "Hannibal" is a pretty typical sequel, and it didn't offer the kind of psychological intensity as the first story did. Sequels usually don't live up to the magnitude of the first installment, that's for sure, and "Hannibal" fell extremely short of the mark. Especially as a film.

With the films, it's easy to see "Lambs" is far superior. There's better mood, better set designs, better acting, bettery storytelling. That's an extremely complex story to get across in a feature film. Think about it: It really is. There's the psychological aspect, there's the social aspect, then to also convey the novel's rich tone and storytelling is a phenomenal feat.

I'm not saying "Hannibal" is a piss-poor movie. It's just not nearly as good as "Silence of the Lambs."

Ridley Scott's Hannibal was okay, but Jonathan Demme's Silence Of The Lambs delivers all.

Silence of the Lambs for me. I never read the Hannibal, but the movie seems a bit too sensationalistic (i.e. face peeling, hog eating, child feeding). I'd go so far as say it was the father of the "torture porn" horror genre.

I prefer more Hannibal but both movies are equally amazing. I prefer Hannibal cause I liked seeing Hannibal interacting with the world as apposed to interacting with only Clarice through a plexi-glass wall. However both are great movies in their own rights. I mean watching Clarice help track Buffalo Bill was great as well. I just prefer Hannibal but not by much.

"Silence of the Lambs" easily.

I'll take "Manhunter" over "Hannibal".

Think 'Hannibal' was a speculative movie without depth. But the book it is based on might also be partly to blame.

Think Ridley Scott is simmilar to Francis Ford Coppola in that their best movies are behind them.Just my opinion ofcourse.

So answer is 'Silence of the lambs'.

I would say Silence is the much better film of the two. Although I think it is way overrated in it's own right. I never found it scary or even really supenseful! I guess what I am trying to say is it was kind of a let down for me. I remember watching it and going.....this won best picture? What was the big deal? I mean Hopkins nice acting job but a story that I can see just about everyday now on Lifetime (Man Bashing Network) ...JFK of that same year was a far superior film in every way (IMHO)

Silence of the Lambs is one of the greatest horror/thrillers in film history. Hopkins is brilliant as Lector and the movie is just plain scary.

Not to say Hannibal is bad (it is okay) but in comparsion to the Silence, it is really outdone. ( I actually think Red Dragon was better )

I agree with you...no doubt. However, my wife is a huge fan of these movies. In fact she has watched both of them at least 10 times. She prefers Hannibal.
