Sorry, but that's utter nonsense.

I'm sure Hitler and his acolytes were very positive about the Third Reich, but would that carry more weight than Churchill and Roosevelt just shaking their heads when asked about the situation?

I'm sure you can see how 'That sucks' is a whole lot less descriptive than 'That's great news'.
No, can't go along with this, it makes no sense really. This is all subjective no matter how much you guys try to spin it. Nobody saying "That's great news" carries anymore weight than someone saying "That sucks" beyond what you yourself personally apply to it. It's all subjective and is not any kind of a rule or science. Some people thrive on the glass half full, some people on glass half empty. Accept that and move on because that is the reality. What you guys are putting forth here is some kind of Pollyanna playing the "Glad Game" logic.

Maybe this whole internet forum thing isn't for you. What exactly are you looking for? This is a Blu-ray forum and users will tend to be positive if there's a blu-ray release for a movie they like that they can add to their collection.

I mean seriously, what are you expecting out of this forum? These threads are devoted to BD releases that people either want to add to their collection or have already added to their collection.

Edit: Is it really that threatening to people that I originally posted a three word negative response to the months lineup? I figured the post may get a handful of 'thumbs up' and probably not a single response. The level of blowback is insane to me. Why on earth do you care if some guy you don't know isn't interested in a few movies?

Every single statement is interpretative yes. But the idea that a reasonable person can't understand what 'That's great news' means compared to 'That sucks' is disingenuous. I'll surmise what I said to the other poster. This is a thread devoted to BD and 4K releases from Criterion. It's easy to understand, without even considering it subjective, that someone posting excitement after the month's announcements are excited about those announcements.

Anything else is you trying to be intentionally obtuse. Context in this case is pretty simple. You may not share the same reaction but thinking that there are ulterior motives at play is more telling of your own state of mind.

I think the one thing to expect from this forum and pretty much any online "zone" is that people will find a way to argue about something. It's just the human condition. Some people can't stand positivity and some can't stand negativity. Someone will see someone too happy and want to bring them down, and someone will see someone too unhappy and will want to confront them. Just the way it is.

Purposely misinterpreting what I posted to suit your own illogical reasoning.

But I just posted that all of this discussion has played out and should move on so I will not respond further. I agree to disagree, my friend.

I like to think that I'm above collecting discs - that I collect movies and not discs - but Criterion is at least one exception where I do feel some compulsion to Collect the Collection. It has resulted in ill-advised purchases before, even when they were not blind buys. For instance, I don't regret having Charulata in my collection, but it's honestly not worth $20 to me.
I wouldn't say I'm happy, but the reality is that I don't want to own most Criterion releases. I'm a charter member of the Criterion Channel and I try to watch most movies before I buy them. Before the CC I would borrow the movies from the library. I try to only buy movies I love.

I'm a huge fan of Criterion and am a charter member of the CC. But there are plenty of Criterion releases that don't interest me at all.

I think that’s the default of most collectors, right? I’ve got a wall full of Criterions. That means I have, what, maybe one-fifth of the collection? I got what I wanted. And I guess that’s why I don’t feel the need to broadcast it. I wasn’t interested in something? Big deal. That’s not special. Why am I wasting your time, polluting the signal to noise ratio on a forum, without, like, a reason? I’ve got better things to do with my Sunday than be an edgelord.

Amazingly, some people seem to think you can't be a fan unless you own and love all Criterion.

Yeahhhhh, I've just never been in that completist mindset. Nor could I afford it if I was.

I’m a charter Channel member too and man has that network cut my disc purchases by more than half! I go to the Channel and add at least five titles to my Watchlist every single DAY. I can’t keep up with it and it seriously cuts into my disc watching time. So many movies I’ve always wanted to see, but not necessarily buy and own.

For me the Channel represents the closest I’ll ever come to visiting the Criterion Closet myself.

I had to look up "edgelord," never heard that one before. Man, the internet wastes no time in coming up with names and titles and labels for EVERYTHING these days. Who can keep up with these instant identifying terms? What happened to the days when we had to try to explain in convoluted fashion what we were trying to say about someone else? All this shorthand is rusting our talent to communicate and improvise.

Anyway, thanks for teaching this old dog something new, Dimitri!
