Okay, you can make the argument that a film as important as Apocalypse Now should always be in print (and not restricted to expensive limited editions, cough), but it's not exactly hard to get hold of. It's not like Star Wars where the last official re-release of the OG versions was agggges ago.
I just think it's a bit of travesty that the bloated final cut is becoming the default version. Even the BBC won't broadcast the original cut anymore!

I feel that. I watched the film in IMAX a few years back and while it was obviously a holy experience, that plantation scene can get in the bin.

To be fair, the theatrical cut of Apocalypse Now is still available fairly easily. Ideally, there should be a "budget" version available with both 4K UHD discs, but you can get, for example, this four-disc German release:

Which has the two 4K UHD discs for the three versions of the film and the two Blu-rays of extras (apparently region free) while dropping the redundant Blu-rays.

In fact, the German release looks to have TrueHD 5.1 for the theatrical and Redux versions, but I don't know if that's just a downmix from the Atmos remix that's on the US, UK and Australian editions.

Dunno about the provenance of the DTHD 5.1, but if you play the theatrical cut in that set it actually has a restored original audio mix in DD 5.1 too. How/why ze Germans were blessed with the OG mix while the UK/US UHD got boned is a mystery. These discs were also authored for StudioCanal/ArtHaus by Lionsgate so it's not a case of a local distributor making ker-azy decisions on their own.

Are there English subs on this release?

For the cuts of the film, I believe so, yes. Though they don't seem to be English SDH, if you need them.
