Alphabetical order and in chronological order. IT is Alphabetical but once I get to a trilogy set, I put them in the order Chronological order. Then it resumes back to being Alphabetical.

I used to work in an HMV store (music/DVDs etc), so my alphabetisation is pretty much the same as there.
Numbered titles fit in alphabetically, so "300" would be under T; all James Bond titles are under B for Bond, except (for the time being) Casino Royale; Batman films are under B (including the Dark Knight), etc.
Once I have enough animation films I'll separate those from the main lot, as I have done with DVDs already.

I wish there was a semi-official numeral system like the Dewey Decimal system. I'd like to have it grouped by genre, but I don't know if I could trust myself to pick the "right" one for it when it easily falls under multiple genres. And I don't like the idea of full alphabetical order because plenty of films have sequels that make them fall out of order, and I'd feel just stupid having "The Dark Knight" next to "Batman Begins". I can live with having "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" before "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", because at least they're both "Harry Potter and the..." and the alphabetic cheating isn't as apparent. But 'D' definitely comes way after 'B'.

Right now mine are just grouped by series, director, and source. For example, all comic books are grouped and ordered, film adaptations of Stephen King novels are together, etc. But I don't like it like this. Really want a genre system. I need to figure something out.

I arrange the Comick Book movies based off Marvel, DC or Dark Horse; from favorite series to least favorite series.

Example: First in the Marvel series - The X-Men Trilogy, followed by TIH, then in DC - the new Batman series.

After the comick book movies, they're in alphabetical order

I have DVD and Blu-ray movies separate. First I have the regular case DVD movies in alphabetical order. Then I have box-sets and limited edition DVD movies in alphabetical order. Then I have music DVDs/Blu-rays in alphabetical order. Then I have box-set and limited edition Blu-ray movies in alphabetical order. Then standard case Blu-ray movies in alphabetical order. Then I have all my tv series on DVD or Blu-ray together in alphabetical order. Movies in a series always stay together (if it's on the same format), a la Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but even companion pieces like Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jim are together.

Brilliant! I have my DVD Movies in alphabetical order. My DVD TV shows in a separate case in alphabetical order. With my Blu-Ray Discs, I still put them in alphabetical order but since i only have TV show set(True Blood), That is in alphabetical order with the movies.

Mostly alphabetical, with a couple of exceptions:
All Bond movies, for instance, are under 'B' then chronological. All number movies go alphabetical (e.g. 2001 is under 'T'). All of my anime is in a separate section, and then alphabetized itself.

The way i seem to do it right now is they go by genre...so gangster films are altogether, then the comic book films, then horror films, then action flicks, then documentaries, kung fu films, action flicks and tv series. Im not a big fan of box sets yet cause i think there ridiculously over priced (exception being godfather) Only film i dont know where to put is Mirrormask since i don't have any other fantasy films right now

Is no one using this: http://www.collectorz.com/movie/ I mean, besides me? I bought the software alone, then a scanner that was cheaper on Amazon. I had spreadsheets but never kept them up to date. Love that I can scan the bar-code, and the data and picture are right there....most the time...even with brand new movies.

I can even download the list to my iPhone (iTouch too) so I always have my list with me. Helps to avoid the double-buy!

You can export to XML, HTML or simple txt as well. Love that I have a list in case I need to report to my insurance company....again...<sigh>

Now when I buy a new one, it sits on a shelf until I scan it in. I usually watch it before filing it away too.

I can sort them multiple ways, using the software. Search for actors, directors, key-word. Can even search for DTS HD Master Audio...in case i just want something that will sound great and don't really have a movie in mind.

As for on-shelf, they're alpha, blu's separate from SD.

The 75 or so dvd's I have are organized in alphabetical order by genre. Then the blu rays I have are organized by release date. I just feel as though since I only have 30 some blus that it makes sense to see 2001 next to The Godfather rather than 300. This order just seems right to me at the moment.
