Almost noon here and I'm still trying to wake up so I'm making more coffee. Thankfully no conf calls today so I've been able to pop on some tunes while I work. But I'll still take a slow slog of a morning over conf calls any day of the week.

I've been covering for someone who has been out since last week, so its been busier than normal for myself. She is back late next week, so I am looking forward to having things get back to normal.

Good thing is she used more than half of her PTO already, so I would only have to cover for her maybe 5 more days the rest of this year, while I still have all 20 of my PTO days.

Apparently, folks don't own a calendar cuz there has been an inordinate amount of BS to deal with for a Friday. One conference call after another addressing an issue hotter than the next. Ngl, Rager poured himself a nice rum on the rocks to manage the last hour of the day.

Thanks buddy I'll post a few more in the next day or two. I called my mom while I was up there and she said that they have some new neighbors who just moved out there (Waverly/Brunswick) from Atlanta and my mom said she asked the guy what it's like out there and he said there's lots of mountains I guess. As I've said before, SHE is trying really card to get me back to the South close(r) to them and knowing that I love the mountains, she's really trying to sell me on the mountains back there. Maybe I'll get back there for good someday.

Went to Applebee's for their meal deal and I saw that they brought back their AYCE promo for a limited time only so I had to go with that. They have AYCE boneless wings every Monday but their current promo is all day, everyday and it's AYCE riblets, breaded shrimp and chicken tenders with endless fries as well. I'm not sure if it includes the soda but I don't think my server charged me for it.

And not long before I left, two Hispanic girls came in and one was fire as the kids would say. I'd say she was the baddest bad girl (image) that I've seen in awhile. Not to say that she was gang-related or anything but just profiling (which I shouldn't do!), I'd say she probably ran with a rougher crowd at some point or at least just urban/street people. Anyway, she didn't even notice me but I'm sure if I were the same age, she would have said something. At least that's what I'm telling myself

I was on the road yesterday in upstate NY. Hit some lovely traffic due to construction and tractors blocking the road, but not a bad trip.

I'm due north of the city, so basically equidistant between there and the mountains, it's the perfect location...45 minutes to an hour, we're downtown for a concert, same amount of time and we're in the Blue Ridge mountains...which is where we're going on this gorgeous Saturday.

My work buddies and I have a saying about conference calls: they're all about (me)eting.

I swear meeting people don't seem to realize that having 20 people (often more than 1/2 of them unnecessarily) on a 2 hour call is 40 hours of time.

Yeah man, they're such a waste of time and resources, but this dang company loves this shyt, it's wild. Imagine paying folks what they pay them to have folks just sitting on a call. Anyway, I got the shyt kicked outta me yesterday, so I'm doing the opposite today (even though I'm technically "observing" work activities)!

What sucks for me is that I'm on the tech side (app dev) and don't really need to be sitting in on a lot of calls. But of course they think that "well, it'll only help". And then when they spent 30% of my day on calls and expect me to deliver the goods yesterday... well, you know how it goes.

I remember one time early in my career I was aching with boredom and decided to tread the water and commented technically when one of the "heads" said something that wasn't agreeable, and she ripped me a new one. I later told my boss what the point was of having me on these calls if "the voice of reason" is going to be shot down like that? From that point on I resorted to giving the most cryptic responses that only tech dorks understand, which would leave everyone silent for a few moments and then they'd switch the subject lol.
