Lightbulb Solar Crown: Test Drive Unlimited PS5

Quote:
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is a racing game and lifestyle experience on Hong Kong Island, recreated at 1:1 scale.

On Hong Kong Island, where dreams become reality, Radiant has created new standards of luxury. This little-known but highly influential organization has invited its members to compete in an extraordinary competition: the Solar Crown. Few know what the group's motives are, but it's clear what they value: prestige, a love of cars, and competition.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be available in 2024 on and PS5®. Wishlist now on the PlayStation Store!
TDU: SC, probably for 2024.
Here's some hopeful news. On Steampowered .com, it is listed as:
Single Player
MMO

Hopefully it'll offer an offline option.

They actually did that with the prior game, TDU 2 on PS3. It offered the option to go online with your created character (you could only play in 1st person view but see yourself in mirrors), and walk around lobbies or something. I never bothered with it as I played offline.

This IGN review of Solar Crown reveals that The Crew 2 will apparently be getting an offline mode soon from Ubisoft. That's awesome news as you can explore the whole USA in car, truck, bike, airplane or boat. I never played Crew 2 so that would be great news.

Ghost Games of the NFS series with that one dud online only first exception "Need for Speed" (Heat, Rivals and Unbound all having offline modes thankfully and each good open world racing games).

Solar Crown, unfortunately is online only but is rumored to be offering an offline mode years down the road. At least they have the right idea some of the time.

It should be offline mode and an online mode, not online mode only at launch because these publishers are losing sales. I refuse to buy online only games till they offer an offline mode for single player.

I was intrigued by this game but ultimately seems like they have missed the mark by a fair bit and could have launched with much better servers and other stuff more polished. That's probably why it seems like it's priced lower on sale in disc form here in the UK when i was looking at game deals.

Maybe down the line if they can resolve the issues it might work out but not having a single player offline variant to switch from to online probably hurts these games a lot more imo. The Crew being lost once servers got shut really hit home with how a game you would have loved to just boot up and drive across the maps country isn't available anymore. The Crew 2, we'll see.

Yeah, with Crew 2, Ubishaft apparently wants to add in an offline mode thanks to offline gamers' demands and not buying or playing online only games thankfully. It'll still be technically a digital game, since the disc version fresh installation without updates would render the disc version completely useless once the servers are gone. It would need the updates to include a newer yet to be released offline mode.

Hmm. I'll need to check the PS4 version of Crew 2. Steam version apparently now offers offline mode?

Okay, The Crew 2 is $1 on PS Store as of now! That's great if it's going to offer offline now or soon. Sold.

EDIT: Okay, played The Crew 2 while connected for now to earn a variety of rides and a motorcycle. Cool you can explore the US on a bike. No other game offers that.
They even have helicopters to ride.

NYC, that doesn't look like NYC in The Crew 2 compared to Spider-Man 2, which is more accurate visually. Crew 2, the streets are way too wide for NYC. This game really stretches the roads out.

Cool game though. Just wish they showed each state's outline so you know where you are. They just blend it all together.

As far as Ubisoft's Offline update, they didn't give a specific date. But to get this game now for $1 knowing it'll be fully playable offline hopefully by early 2025, that's awesome. This is a game I wanted to be able to play offline.

On topic, Solar Crown, that's a 1:1 recreation of Hong Kong, China.

Deep discount, but i have enough racing games that i will pass on another one that requires a constant online connection to play. Also confused how the PS store listing says PS plus required for online play and online play required, does that mean a subscription is required to play the game?

As far as i remember, Sony made it mandatory for every paid for game to require PS+ to play online. The only exception to this is Free to Play games like Fortnite etc.

I played GT7 but single player and that requires an always online connection and so not sure if that required PS+ or the check happens when you try play with other people on the actual online parts.

I like the look of the open world map, the cars and don't mind a career progression but the higher price at launch is what put me off. The sale price i got kinda offset the always online nature a bit for me as they have to be pretty cheap for me to bite.

That GT7 example is kind of what I'm wondering about here. If I want to play single player I don't want to be forced to subscribe to PS+ because of the online requirement. With Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox if you don't subscribe you still get some online features (most of the festival playlist is available, but no vs play which is fine by me), I'm wondering if it will be the same for PS5. My PS+ sub expires in ~2 weeks so it won't be long until I find out.

I personally wouldn't be able to check that out because i'm sharing my brothers PS+ but i think if the titles always online, then unless it has a mode where you can "offline" yourself so players cannot join you but you are connected to the servers, maybe it might not require PS+ to play, just an online only connection and that's why it listed both when you posted above.

That said, i don't see many replies on this thread so Google will probably have an answer through like Reddit etc.
