![]() I took the 35mm teaser scan and restored James Horner's teaser score to it. |

Saw this one in the theater and loved it as a kid. Will have to get this one. Hopefully the soundtrack isn't messed with too much. I still have the old DTS LD as it's remained a reference track years later.

This was one of the first movies I ever saw, period. My grandpa worked for Pepsi, and everyone in my family had multiple promotional VHS copies of this movie lying around (it had a Casper Pepsi ad along with the entire film). I watched it over and over as a toddler and young child. In hindsight, I was probably a bit young for a film with such dark themes (and some language), but it might be one reason why I was always familiar with the concept of death, even at age 3. I knew ghosts (as depicted in the film at least) weren’t real, but the film is otherwise pretty frank about the subject.
EDIT: Damn, those copies go for a lot of money now. Last edited by GeoffOliver; 06-04-2025 at 03:17 AM. |

Casper has held up as a solid 90s family film. Especially still love James Horner's score (RIP).

Horner had his orchestrator Don Davis (composer for "The Matrix") write some short cues for the face morphing / famous cameo sequence, but none of it was used in the final film.
Clint Eastwood had a light Morricone-style bit with harmonica Rodney Dangerfield had a big comedic thing with drums and trumpets, like a Las Vegas show Mel Gibson had what sounded like a 90s romcom / sitcom bit Cryptkeeper had a riff on Danny Elfman's Tales From The Crypt theme Last edited by NL197; 06-04-2025 at 05:38 PM. |

There's been steelbooks that showed up to pre-order before the standard, but they still came out at the same time. Twister was also one of them. That's different than being steelbook-only though.

I'm in the opposite camp. This movie has a real heart to it - it's not just sight gags and general spooky behavior. The real story is about confronting the reality of death, and what the film suggests lies beyond. Casper tells Kat that his unfinished business wasn't placed on him - he willingly stayed behind to keep his father company. Meanwhile, Dr. Harvey's on a quest to reunite with his wife Amelia, partly through love and also because he doubts his ability to raise Kat properly. And finally there's Crittenden & Dibs, who only want control for what they believe is a wealth of literal treasure...ignoring the fact that life itself has much more value by comparison.
