They actually did reveal the reason why they used VHS sourced audio. Warner Bros. did in fact have an element with the original score, but it was only in mono. They weren't able to track down a more proper source with the original score in stereo, so Shout used the VHS audio since it was quite literally the best sounding stereo track they could find. The laserdisc apparently sounded worse than the VHS so it's good they didn't use that as basis.

I'll go check out that thread. But I've watched the corrected Shout disc in 3D twice, and it looked great with the image really popping out of the screen as intended. So I don't know what issues it has that people are saying it does?

I was talking about ROTLD2, if you're talking about Friday the 13th Part 3, the issue was on that disc that the opening credits weren't popping out properly on the 3D version.

The 3d wasn't aligned. It's completely off and causes most people to suffer terrible headaches as a result. There's also significant double imaging (crosstalk) problems that don't need to be there. There's been a fan made bootleg version floating around for years that doesn't have either of these problems, and the German Turbine disc doesn't have them either.
Put the film on, go the end credits and take your glasses off. It's really easy to see there how bad it is.
As I recommended before, read the thread about it in the 3D section.

This is a good Starting point regarding the bodged Shout release of F13 pt3-

So it was just the opening credits scene that SF "fixed" on their BD for Friday the 13th 3D?

Well that's just false, the laserdisc sounds amazing compared to what is on the Blu-ray.

I believe this. Hopefully the right people find out. Wouldn't it be great to have a 4K with that track and the original movie poster included?

Someone earlier in this thread said the laserdisc sounded terrible.

Yes it is absolutely possible.

I never saw that post? Since there are allegedly conflicting claims, they can't both possibly be true.

Since I have compared myself, I know which one is correct. You should definitely do the comparison yourself.

Possible but unlikely. I can't think of one laserdisc with worse audio than VHS.

For a Few Dollars More had better fidelity on the earlier VHS than the laserdisc. But here's a post confirming that the laserdisc that Shout did have access to (the JP LD most likely) did in fact sound worse than the VHS.

That doesn't prove that the laserdisc audio is worse, just that Shout claimed it was.

The 6 year old post you are referencing literally says that the US Laserdisc audio is better than the VHS audio Shout used.

This makes no sense that you keep posting that the Laserdisc audio is "terrible" or "worse" than the VHS.

Yes, the post clearly references the existence of a poor quality Japanese Laserdisc that was also compared, but is irrelevant due to the existence of the excellent US Laserdisc.

So no need to keep perpetuating that the Laserdisc audio is "terrible."

Shout could have done better.

I don't have historical pricing on the US Laserdisc but I am sure Shout could have paid the ~$100 or less for a copy.
