Probably would give the finished result a 4 out of 5 (and in retrospect a 1/5 on the original 2009-2014 releases). |

I got to admit that I liked the Eureka Blu-ray. I can't imagine this film NOT looking weird because it's just that kind of a movie. I hope some reviews start pouring in before I sell my Blu-ray and buy the 4K.

![]() ![]() Dr. Svet's review https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Wake-...361539/#Review It looks beautiful (although the older Blu-ray was also great). I'll move that up my to buy list. |

Apparently the soundtrack might be incorrectly pitched:

How and why does a pitch change happen in the digital domain without the running time of the feature being affected?

Seeing as the audio on the 2009 Madman DVD is otherwise identical to the two blu-rays, that very well could have happened here, making the UHD's audio correct. That's just speculation, though. |

I gave the Eureka version a watch over the weekend as I'm considering upgrading to the 4K.
I've came to the conclusion that Wake in Fright is hard to define genre wise. Only one I think is pertinent enough is horror. It's almost like a nightmare that's impossible to wake from and although there are no Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees or Leatherface type of characters the real monsters are the isolation, oppressive heat, parochial attitude and the overly friendly, over bearing locals. After all these years Wake in Fright kinda reminds me of elements of Fargo and Cruising. John Grant is comparable to Al Pacino's character in terms of being a stranger in a strange land or a fish out of water. Ultimately both characters are changed forever because of their experiences, especially when John Grant accepts a beer without hesitation on his return train journey. Has anyone ever read Kenneth Cook's book? |

About the same size as Second Sight's Picnic At Hanging Rock box. About the same weight too. It has a cool orange PET slip over the box, which is sky blue. The orange I guess is supposed to signify the colors of the Aussie outback, and the blue is for that deep Aussie blue of the sky. Very cool set.
