It would be interesting if Capcom updated RE7 to include a third person mode. That will then make the RE Engine trilogy feel complete.
Did you notice that Ethan's face does not reflect in any mirrors? That is very odd. But in RE1, you can see yourself in a mirror. I think going back to survival horror is a great step. I always felt the action oriented games vastly ruined the eerieness of the earlier games. I also miss the music. In RE2 the original, music was heard in the police station. The same in the streets and the mansion in the case of the first and third games. Not to mention the glorious piano sounds in CV. There is nothing like that in RE anymore. The games are just mostly silent. And while the plot is absurd, it is not necessarily boring. |

I'm not completely on board with Requiem. I think I need more footage to get truly hyped.
Weirdly I think I want remakes of the other games before another new sequel. |

Yeah, I paid 30 bucks for a super clean copy of Outbreak, but Outbreak Files 2 looks to routinely go for close to $100. I keep wanting to play Silent Hill 3, but it's almost always around $200 for a halfway decent copy. I really prefer owning a copy and playing on original hardware, but SH3 is really making me want to try emulating.

So having rewatched the ending to RE3, it doesn't look like any of the police station really surprised the blast. LOL.
I hope this isn't another case of Capcom pulling shite out of their arses again just to have something else dilute the legacy of the franchise. Also, is the stalker boss in this gonna have bad AI too, where when you go around a table, the pursuer doesn't think to just flip the table over? Hehe. Mind you, I would prefer a storyline about the original lore over the utter rubbish that was RE8. But if you like RE8, I am fine with that. I just personally thought the whole game was daft, while being kind of unique in its own right. But at least this next game is sounding like a return to form, which has to be appreciated. Even if all the other revisitations to the era in those other games made for a pointless experience. The voice actor for the Duke actually sponsors the Residence of Evil YouTube channel. You can usually hear his voice providing a discount code for a brand of energy drink or fitness supplement at the end of one of their videos. |

I’m not sure anything can beat the thrill of RE7 in VR, with that constant tension, but I will still buy this.

Come to think of it, what if that female creature in the RE9 trailer turns out to be Alyssa Ashcroft after being used like Lisa Trevor in the RE remake?
Grace never did find her mum. She was apparently murdered in a hotel. Somebody on YouTube even said he thinks the main villain could be George Hamilton because of the outfit he has on, plus the fact he knows so much about viruses. He also thought Raccoon City could be in the middle of the US. In Outbreak, the two characters would shun each other. So you never know. |

Personally i think in terms of recent games, RE7 really went a new direction and with VR and the characters knocked it out the place as an engaging entry and RE8 may have bought back that same first person but they opened the world up a bit more and further added to the RE lore into more supernatural elements they hadn't really done fully. This entry though, it just doesn’t look as polished as you'd expect for a mainline entry with the release window they have given. If you told me it was a sub title spin off in the RE world set just after RE2 & RE3, i could see that being a lot more of a solid tie in for the lore and reduce maybe some of the expectations. |

I don't buy many new games these days but I have enough love of the older RE games that I will probably pre-order this on PC. I'm still concerned about how it will turn out. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the first half of RE7 is still the only time I've really loved anything about a new entry in the series since RE4. I liked about 40% of Village but it was such a mishmash that I could never really get into it, and that Rambo-esque last act really left a bad taste.
I have a bad feeling this new game will be the same try-to-appeal-to-everyone mash-up of horror and action. All I really want is the slow-burn atmospheric horror of the original games, but I think that ship has sailed. At least we still have a few older games that haven't been remade, so I'm hoping RE0 and Code Veronica will retain some of the old-school feel. |

I miss the days when the plot was interconnected. I liked how every game was basically building up to some kind of epic battle with Umbrella, Wesker, or whoever. Every game had a similar, "Umbrella must pay for this" type ending.
I have never really understood the fascination with RE4, to be honest. LOL. It is the most un-RE-like game in the series. But it is praised for being innovative (at the time). I think it's kind of nuts and totally fake. Never did enjoy the gimmicky stuff like The Merchant. Like, that is seriously daft. A guy carries a whole shop full of weapons and other items on his back. LMAO. Yeah, f*ck off. ![]() Other than that, it felt more like an adventure game. Like if Steven Spielberg had gotten the rights to the series. Which is why it is so good. ![]() Every subsequent game has had some good stuff, but mostly bad. I suppose now that I am nearing 40 years of age, I ought to just stop giving a crap about the crap that is RE lore. LOL. Or I will go insane from being in too deep with it. The whole thing with characters having viruses slow their age is just so Capcom can keep doing cash grabs (or soft reboots), repeatedly. Until a full on reboot occurs. Even so, the franchise has been put through the mud way too much. |

Yeah. He's the fatso called Duke.
I hate the concept of vendors because I feel like in horror games, you should be having to salvage things that you find by yourself. Having a shopping format for this is a load of meh. I know other horror type games like Days Gone has it as well, but I think it is more suited to that game as people in the communities would be reluctant to just give away loot without trading it or having someone carrying out objectives to earn their trust, or a degree of respect. It always came as a nice surprise in RE2 or something, if you got a key as a reward for doing some task. Then you opened up a locker and got a grenade launcher, or some other weapon. That was a cool feeling. It felt like you were actually trying to survive. But in RE4 and 5, you just obliterate villagers like you are John Matrix looking for Jenny. LMAO. Generally speaking, those games were just way more atmospheric and George Romero-esque, compared to the baloney Capcom makes up now, with vampires, cyborgs and stupid stuff like that. They just see the franchise today as a way to print money. Which is evident from all the remasters, movies, and other garbage they constantly make or publish. RE2 was very creepy in 1998. From the opening FMV to the zombies entering the gun shop, to the Licker being introduced. These classics delivered. But games like RE8 are just good for the memes culture. |

In terms of lore, Code Veronica and RE0 effectively killed off any interest I had in that element of the series. I know it won't happen now, but I wish the series was more of an anthology that followed different characters as they deal with the outbreak and fallout of the original events. Part of what made the first half of RE7 so fantastic was how it seemed to leave all that stuff behind. Even RE4--which I love--would have been better without the ham-fisted connections to the earlier games.
My favorite part of RE has always been the atmosphere and setting--those are the characters that I care most about. I hope the new one has enough of that going for it that I'll be able to overlook the stuff that I will inevitably dislike. |

I still remember coming home and my brother had the long box release (launch) of RE1. We just had a console style tv, nothing fancy but when he stopped and I started up a new game I couldn't believe they had different footfall noises in the foyer for the tiles and carpet. I must have spent a half hour aggravating him with it.
I went on to play it nonstop until morning and beating it. |

It's hard to explain to my son how crazy it was to grow up and play games like RE for the first time. Things that kids take for granted in modern games were so amazing to experience when they were being done for the first time.
On a somewhat different note, it's interesting to me that games like REmake and Code Veronica feel almost fresh when I play them now because of how homogenized the genre has become. If they just updated the graphics and some of the level design in a Code Veronica remake but kept the camera placements the same, it would be so good. It's a shame that it will just end up feeling just like the other modern remakes. |
