As I await the blu-ray, here is a review that is translated from the Amazon.co.jp product page of the blu-ray:
"Director Ken Russell has many disturbing works, but this is the Blu-ray version of one of the biggest. The famous chaos at Loudun has been visualized in a truly chaotic way (how can I put it, I'm not sure how much of Aldous Huxley's book it's based on is true). But the direction is perfect, the art by Derek Jarman is superb, and the dissonant music throughout is amazing, so I have no complaints. The Blu-ray released this time is probably the complete version, as it includes the infamous rape of Christ scene, which was cut from the British DVD that was previously released as the X-rated complete version, and the scene with Grandier's bones near the end. However, the quality of the image in both scenes is a little rough compared to other parts, which may be due to the quality of the footage. Other bonus features include the original trailer, a trailer for the software, making-of footage (about 20 minutes long. I think it was also included on the UK version), a photo gallery, and trailers for other films. Audio is English DTS-HDMA 2.0ch and English Dolby Digital 2.0ch. There is no dubbing (it would be a pain if there was)." |

Conflicting reports! I just have no idea what is being communicated when people talk about the BFI DVD release. The cut scenes are included in the documentary, but not in the film? One of the cut scenes is in the documentary but the other is not? Who knows??

"It was thanks to critic Mark Kermode, along with director Paul Joyce, that these two scenes, thought to be missing, were unearthed from an archive and reinstated by the film's original editor Michael Bradsell. However, in spite of renewed pressure for this full director's cut to be released, it remains unavailable. That's despite the fact that when members of the BBFC attended a special screening of the cut in 2002, they had no issue with the reinstated scenes. Various petitions for Warner Bros to release it are ongoing. According to Kermode, in a 2014 episode of his video blog Kermode Uncut, their last response suggested the film's "distasteful tonality" to be the barrier to its future re-release. Instead, audiences have to make do with the truncated versions: in the UK, the British cut can be viewed thanks to the 2012 BFI DVD release, while in the US, the 108 minute cut Russell was so unhappy with is available to stream on iTunes America."

ABaglivi is clearly confusing the cut "rape of Christ" sequence with some other moment still in the film. Even the booklet says the missing footage is "the primary stumbling block preventing Warners from authorising the release of Russell's 2004 director's cut".
It is not on the BFI DVD. |

We need to get to the bottom of this. ABaglivi, please play the scene as it appears on your DVD and record your TV with your phone’s video camera and upload to YouTube and post it here.
