Watching ID4 now. Watch it every year around or on the 4th, depending on what I'm doing. I'll be at a bbq tomorrow so I'm watching it today. I don't think I've missed a year since it released on video.

My mom asked me if I wanted to buy a G-Shock watch. Some of those watches are on clearance @ Zales right now. I don’t see myself buying another watch until my $10 fitness watch breaks. It has happened before because this is my second watch.

I haven't bought a watch in decades. Replaced with a cell phone.

I have to wear this ugly bulky thing:

Lifeline Smartwatch B.jpg

Lifeline Smartwatch 02 B.jpg

It has a rubbery wristband that sticks to my arm and the watch itself is so thick that it catches on everything. My insurance provides it because it has a panic button on it for summoning help.

It can also act as a fall detector, but with the watch style it is prone to false activation, so I have that feature disabled.

My wall clock stopped working a couple months ago and I never replaced the battery. Somehow it came back to life but I have been too lazy to reset it. It's about 44 minutes off. How it suddenly resurrected itself, I'm not sure

BBQ festivities are over. Now time to relax and pop on a movie or two and crank up the system . Live Free or Die Hard to start, and Top Gun: Maverick after.

I think it actually looks cool... but of course, as you can see above, I'm a bulky watch guy.

I can’t imagine not having a wristwatch. I would even love to also have a pocket watch, if I had a proper bespoke three piece suit to wear it with.

When I worked as an Amtrak conductor I sometimes wore a pocket watch; the kids kind of expected it.

I was hoping that we would have a peaceful planet like in Star Trek but I've come to realize being older dealing with the government we can never be one world. there's too many idiots who go out of their way to hate you for whatever reason.

Missing my mountain bike. I was hoping to get a ride in yesterday morning, which is one of my favorite things to do the morning of the 4th before the festivities start, but I had a rough night trying to sleep the night before so I skipped.

But I'm also getting to an age where I'm wondering if it's a good idea to keep up this hobby, in part due to some health issues the last few years. In which case, I can't ride hard like I used to (almost had to get air-lifted a couple of years ago from an a-fib episode during a ride). Sucks because I've always been generally healthy and physically active. But I can still train in the gym 4-5 days a week, so there's that at least.

One of my favorite Star Trek film moments that exemplified the peaceful culture in Star Trek was the developing relationship between Picard and Lily in First Contact. And I particularly love this quote:

"The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity."

And damn, does Alfre Woodard ever age?

I miss my mountain bike as well, I never rode any real technical trails but i rode that bike everywhere. Traded in for an road bike which is currently sitting in storage, I always have to force myself to ride it unlike the mountain bike that I honestly had to force myself to not ride. I probably should've kept that bike, but I didn't have the space to store 2 bikes at the time (I still don't) and thought the road bike would take me further and on longer trips.

Ah, technical trails are overrated. Give me a flow trail with jumps any day of the week!

I also thought about going there, but I can't stand the feel of a road bike (mainly the riding position). Mountain bikes are prettier, too . For sure if I went that route, I wouldn't ride it. I thought about a rec bike that can also work on gravel as we have a lot of that in our area since my wife likes to ride with me but she no longer wants to ride the beginner trails (green). We also have a lot of paved areas to ride around. But really, I can just keep our bikes to serve both roles since we're now both on eMTBs. We do already take them on the paved trails.

Here's one of our favorite riding areas. Diamond Valley Lake, 22 miles around. A rec bike could work here, but it'd probably have a tough time at it given the distance. One reason why I'll just stick with the MTBs. Might be a bit overkill, but I already have them. That's my old Giant in the pic, btw. I'm on a Specialized Levo now, but I also have a 2019 Stumpjumper that I still take out to my local trails when I want the feel of a fully mechanical, although it's getting less and less these days due to the health thing I mentioned.

I loved watching TNG rowing up in the nineties. I still haven't watched everything or read everything. I should try to get back into ST one of these days.

Nice! If I get another watch, I would prefer one that has a rechargeable battery with USB.

Was on YouTube and happened to see a video of Travis Tritt talking about helping to get the Eagles back together when he shot the music video for his cover of their Take It Easy. The song was on the album Common Thread: Songs Of The Eagles and maybe I should look to pick that one up. I'm not a big Eagles fan but I do love some of their songs. I'm not a big fan of Hotel California while The Long Run might be my favorite song.

Can't go wrong with a G-shock. I've worn one almost my whole life. Built like tanks and just the right price where once it dies you can replace it with another. I've changed a battery once but it was a nightmare and wouldn't recommend it, lol. I would suggest the standard DW5600 as the best budget entry level G-shock (plus it has retro appeal). If you want the absolute cheapest good quality watch you could also consider the F-91W (also made by Casio). Not as robust as a G-shock but will still get the job done and easily replaced if it gets damaged/lost/stolen. The only real drawbacks are that it's not truly waterproof (don't go swimming or shower with it) and the light is AWFUL.
