No disagreement there! both fantastic places to order from.

I am waiting for Walmart to see if they will do another $50 special on S5/6 like they did for 3/4.

I agree! Whether through a BOGO sale at JB HiFi or, more ideally, another cheap price from Walmart, I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed for another excellent deal.

I also like to order and support a small home based retailer (as Atomic is) when I can!

I just found this https://episode.ninja/series/bewitched/best-seasons

Was floored at the ranking. S7 above S2? S6 above S3? S8 above S5?

I didn't think the Sargent years were rated that highly.

Season 7 is one of the strongest i my opinion. Its got a freshness to it and Dick Sargent had put his own spin on the Darrin character.

Thanks, I pre-ordered Season 5&6 from DeepDiscount after just ordering my copies of Season 1&2 and 3&4 just yesterday. I'll more than likely pre-order 7&8 when that comes out as well.

I am curious to find out how well the Millcreek 60 anniversary Blu Ray set ends up being however.

Mine came today too. Beautiful Sam & Darrin on a cloud is the ending of the first episode.
Someone said the us release is going to be full screen. Don't get it. You can get the OAR and blow it up yourself to fill the whole screen although you do see less. This happened to Seinfeld i got the 4:3 much better than the Blown-up versions. When all these 4 volumes are out they would make a great set on the shelf. Mill Creek i have Zero Faith in. Why are the blowing up the episodes?

Not exactly “blown up” as there are two versions of “Bewitched” which have been remastered for different markets - 4x 3 and 16 x 9.

The 16 x 9 versions have more picture information on the left and right side but of course lose the picture on the very top and bottom.

A 35mm film frame has curved edges so to avoid these the frame is always cropped in to make a 4 x 3 image.

For 16 x 9 producers can create the image across the frame. This has problems because viewers weren't meant to see the far edges. An example is the 16 x 9 version of season 3's "Oedipus Hex” where you can see a “hole” in the Stephens living room ceiling where the set ends. This isn't visible in the 4 x 3 version.

If you look at the comparisons in the Mill Creek thread, the gains on the left and right are extremely minimal, though; you're gaining something like 5%, at the very most, on the left and right, and losing something like 20% off the top and bottom. So the picture is significantly 'blown up', so to speak; there would have to be a much larger picture gain on the left and right for that not to be true.

I'm not offering an opinion; I'm simply explaining the process because I work in this field. Nothing is blown up as it would be in a chemical process because the image is scanned digitally at 4K resolution, allowing it to be scaled down to a 1080 frame with the crop. It depends on the quality of the source material—and, of course, the 4 K scan and then cleanup/restoration—as to what level of quality is retained.

The black and white episodes of Bewitched were shot on 35mm, but when it went to colour, it used a version of Super 35mm, which is *slightly* wider, and is the reason the edges of the studio set can be seen in the colour episode examples I've given when the mattes are removed.

Anybody who ordered from DeepDiscount got their set or a notification that it's shipped? I just checked my order status and it just says "processing". Not sure if there's an added delay from the point of view of them getting these Imprint in bulk and then shipping out individually to end consumers (vs those who ordered from Imprint directly and are getting direct shipments from Australia).

The white clouds are a fun way of covering up the Chevrolet logo.
Are there any Easter eggs on this set like the theme tune one you found on the previous release?

The difference in the b/w examples is the difference between 1.33 wide and 1.37 wide. (Since TV is was 1.33 and 35mm Sound and 16mm are 1.37 well TV had that little smidge less. Is basically the same difference as between HDTV 1.78 and 35mm 1.85.

Here is what would be the full 1.37 frame if the 1.33 is using ~ the 35mm Sound height and 1.33 width, and the 1.78 version is using the 1.37 width.

Original by Rik1138

If the other (color) 1.33s and 1.78s are done using the same principle, applying that to dw445's capture gives you something like this so you could check against what was done in the discs if it is similar or not. I left the "seams' of the extra 1.33->1.37 width so you can see the difference.

Boy, was the green Command shirt color that Kirk, Sulu and Chekov wore popular in the 60s, I keep finding it in all kinds of 60s stuff. Too bad that when the dim NTSC phosphours/colors/greens were replaced by the brighter yellowish-green phosphours in 70s TVs, it was forgotten in some kind of TV Mandela effect.

deci goes on a green tangent
