Oh yeah, I know MifuneFan is more than trustworthy. I guess I assumed that the ship regarding the possibility of Criterion releasing it had already sailed.

But then again, Criterion initially rejected SORCERER and then decided to finally put it out recently, and Janus had EASTERN CONDORS since at least 2022 before the Criterion finally came out at the end of 2024.

Even though I didn't guess Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me, it wouldn't shock me if the upgrade was in October instead of November, as that kind of shuffling of upgrades to UHD is probably pretty common, since the special features are already completed, it is just down to the authoring, disc pressing and printing the packaging.
Seems to me a while back it was all but confirmed that Criterion is going to release Altered States at some point.

Not sure if it means anything, but Deprisa, Deprisa is no longer hidden.

Also, I forgot about Demonlover for an October guess.

Criterion timeline to release can me maddeningly long. I think there are still two titles from the initial Warner Deal that have yet to be released. (not to mention the Janus Films stuff that is on the back burner while they do US studio stuff.)

Spain Deprisa deprisa

Speaking of Carlos Saura, whenever Criterion decide to upgrade the Flamenco Trilogy, fireworks will be heard in my neighborhood. I tried to import the Spanish release a while ago but the shipping cost scared me off.

Another example of this seems to be Raise the Red Lantern, which (according to rumors at least) got a 4K restoration through Janus that premiered at film festivals over a year ago, but we still haven't heard any news about it coming to disc. And as its only availability is through out-of-print DVDs or a part of an international imported boxset, the wait has been driving me CRAZY.

Ken Russell with a Chayefsky chaser? That's totally Criterion territory, especially with the cult following it's built up over the years.

(There's been speculation that Criterion has Network. That would be an interesting double feature.)

NETWORK I definitely think they have. It's had a completed 4K DCP for some time now and Warners has yet to release it themselves. Only Criterion would be continuously sitting on it.

I also think DOG DAY AFTERNOON will be coming from Criterion soon, speaking of Lumet.

See, that's what's crazy. Janus screened DEMONLOVER over four years ago, yet Criterion seems to be in no rush to release it. I doubt they'll outdo the Arrow disc anyway, however.

The elements for that are in horrifically bad shape - the existing release is really sub-par in places, even on the DVD downscale. So unless a negative has miraculously turned up I'd be amazed if anyone was doing anything with it!

It has had a full 4K restoration by the Film Foundation in 2021 since the Criterion blu came out. The restoration does use a significant part of the original negative along with a fine grain and a dupe negative in a few sections.

Cool, so that's definitely better elements than the Criterion! I wonder if the negs were lost at the time or just out of bounds.

Harold Lloyd
Charlie Chaplin
Charade (1963)

I Married A Witch (1942) 4k
I made the thread for the current release and there was a mention of a new restoration for it back in 2023:
https://www.moma.org/calendar/events/8368

AGFA released screencaps of the new restoration. The screencaps and info are on reply I made:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...7&postcount=18

4K was never mentioned in the restoration details. I'd love to get it in 4K too, since we do know that it can look (and possibly sound) better. Its one of my favorite films of all time and I'd love to see it have the best release possible at this point.

I've decided not to guess anything as usually I'm wrong on most of the titles anyway so I'd rather wait till the titles get announced for October. Guessing isn't worth it anymore in my opinion

Anyways, any thoughts on these titles that I'm planning on buying at close to the end of the month minus House, and Moonstruck both of which I've already seen before.

How to Get Ahead In Advertising
Girlfight
The Long Good Friday
The Killing
The Manchurian Candidate
Mississippi Masala

Janus posted a flame emoji on twitter with no other context. Probably safe to assume it's a tease of some kind, and with Criterion announcements presumably coming tomorrow, I assumed it was teasing Fire Walk With Me 4k.

I also forgot about Criterion having The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover. So another potential title for an announcement tomorrow.
